I think the mental stress when piloting those massive machines is too much for one pilot to handle, so, they need 2 people. On the downside, the pilots must be mentally and physically in-sync.

Right now, all I care is the battle between giant robots and enormous monsters. The “rocket punch” in the trailer doesn’t look too hot. I hope it’ll have more “Impacto!” in the movie . They might as well make a weapon like Alteisen’s pile bunker. That would be awesome.

^Indeed ^_^.
Still, I personally glad that Pacific Rim is the first movie from “mecha (with pilot)” genre that got made by Hollywood. Counting out Transformers and real-robot subgenre, “giant (piloted) robot vs. monsters” is the plot of almost every mecha animes at its most basic. The unfamiliar audience need this kind of introduction before delving further into more complex mecha outings like Evangelion, Gundams, Patlabor, Macross, etc (assuming Hollywood wants to make live-action outta them).

Decent trailer. Beyond the special effects, there was nothing too amazing (and honestly it just looks like a big budget Scify channel movie right now) in this seemingly very obvious genre picture, but I am intrigued by the monsters (Do they have sentience? Are they actually plotting something?) and the quote "to fight monsters, we created monsters". If nothing else, this'll be a great film to see in IMAX...

The GLaDOS voice wasn't really the icing on the cake for me, it just seemed like overkill. The film is already a complete nerdgasm, so adding GLaDOS to mix was actually distracting for me, especially considering they could have hired an actual human for the job.

Coyote Tango, Striker Eureka, and Gipsy Danger are my favorites. Cherno Alpha's big head and Crimson Typhoon's wonk arm set up are turn offs for me.
If Crimson Typhoon had both left and right placements of its claw/cannon arm, it'd be in my favorites. |
