From the looks of it, not only will this be a fine episode, but I'll finally get lots of Saber goodness. ^_^

Oh, and Lancer vs. Saber should be totally freaking awesomeness~!

A little on the average side.

Sakuga quality and storybaord was also a bit mediocre, but still done much better than many other ero-game based anime.

But at least this completes the prologue section of Fate, so things should start becoming interesting from the next episode.

I kinda hoped Iriya's entrance to the battle could've been done a bit better - it's lacking something....like her upper-class curtsey*

Anyhow, at least we got to hear some great voice acting by George Nakata!!!

Other than that not much I can say about it. It should make things clearer for the newcomers to the series (i mean those that haven't been spoiled yet )

They actually devoted half of the episode into explaining the rules of the war

This really feels more like a visual novel than an anime..

though, that is not necessarily a good thing

After watching this episode I was wondering why Saber's sword is invisible? Is it because if the sword was seen it would be easily for the opponent to find out who their real indentities are?

One of Saber's Noble Phantasm abilities is called "Invisible Air", which surrounds her sword within a vortex of air that also bends light, making the sword itself invisible while multiplying the damage on impact.

Saber's Invisible Air ability is a special case, because her sword is so famous, her identity would be instantly exposed if her enemy were to see it, so normally it's hidden by the ability that uses magically controlled wind vortex to refract light and make her weapon appear invisible.

I liked Saber's fight with Lancer, the tremendous powers in servants' attacks were reproduced well with the sound and visual effects.

The second half of "rule explanation" though, really had little value for us gamers. Well, besides getting to hear George's awsome voice.

And I don't like the way they portrayed Ilya. In the game, her first appearances was described to give out an illusion of a "silver fairy", in the anime, it was more like "ghost". -_-

Well, unlike the game, there's no such thing as a "status menu" in the anime. I doubt they'll ever explicitly talk about any of the the servant's abilities in the anime, so I don't think it's spoiling any future contents by providing some extra info. But I'll tag it, I guess.

Err, in episode 3, Saber explicitly talked about the ability Lancer uses on her, and deduced that Lancer actually is.....

Can't wait to see the RAW. One of those series that I don't care if I only understand 1/100th of the conversations just as long as I can enjoy the animation and music.

Even though your right that they won't probably won't go into that much, still the anime implies some of those stats like when:

Saber was completely unaffected by Rin's Spell Gem (Magical Resistance)

and

Spoiler:

Shirou was stuck speechless at the sight of Saber (Charisma)

You illustrated my point very well, when Rin used her gemstone against Saber in the game, she was shocked at it's ineffectiveness, and went on with some descriptions about just how much magic powers she had saved up in it and the level of spell she was using, followed with a conclusion "Saber really must be the best servant for even such powerful spells to not work against her". (And later on, we see the reason through Saber's stats)

In the anime, we can't see Rin's thoughts, so the scene was nothing more than Rin tossing a gemstone at Saber and having it disappear. (Actually, in the game, Rin didn't toss it at Saber, but used the stored magic powers in it to instantly fire off a volley of magic missiles)

That's what I meant when I say "providing extra info". But in the case of Saber's magic resistence, I think the anime actually might touch up on it.

Oh, and Shirou being stunned was probably simply because he has no friggin clue what the hell was going on, not because of Saber's ability.
