Seems that there is a ton of demand for the X1 after all... Or at least for that controller. Smart move to increase the controller price and lower the X1 price so those getting a controller will be more tempted to actually get a X1 too. PS - Just a Parody site, so don't take it with a grain of salt. I personally thought it was hilarious. |

Anandtech just posted a review of the AMD's A4-5000 APU, which has four jaguar CPU cores running at 1.5ghz with 2MB cache. The XBone and PS4 will use eight jaguar cores with 4MB cache, rumour clock speed of 1.6ghz. So essentially equivalent to two A4-5000s.
Anandtech's result show that the A4-5000 gets trounced by Core i5s meant for use in ultrabooks to the tune of 46% faster on up: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6974/amd-kabini-review/3 To say nothing of desktop CPUs. Granted, the console code will obviously get great optimization and they'll probably use OpenCL to run some stuff on GPU, but man, raw CPU performance looks pretty weak on both consoles. Microsoft makes a lot of money off patent licensing. And giant tech firms don't always use their patents themselves. Case in point: Sony has patents on systems for charging fees on used games. Going to guess Microsoft's tech works around them somehow.

Well that's not surprising, and I don't understand why people keep harping on about it. Consoles have to take into account power, thermal management, stability, and most importantly price.
A single core i5, for instance, costs up to about $200. That's almost half the probable price of a ps4 or xbox one. Just the CPU alone. Then you have the motherboard. Then graphics card. Then ram. Then case. Then hard drives. Then any drives like BD drives if you need them. And then there's the PSU. All of that adds up if you're building your own rig. And if you're not, you're still looking at about 700-800 for a decent mid-range tower or laptop. Things can go well north of a thousand dollars if you're going for a serious gaming machine. So if you cram that much money into a system, of course you're going to get something that kicks the pants off of a console in terms of raw power, but there's the catch: Raw power isn't the point.

As for why I'm comparing it to desktop CPUs... well, I've had this theory a desktop user with one of AMD's newer (ie. highly clocked) octo-core desktop ships probably won't need to upgrade their CPU for this entire generation. I wanted to see what the difference would be so I could tell if I appear to be on the mark.

Ya porn or not, i would not be comfortable with having a camera that's always on and always connected to the internet, and always looking at me. Can't even feel comfortable being in my own room without a shirt on. Would have it been really so hard for Microsoft to make these things OPTIONAL and include an alternate control scheme.

Hello!~ The Bad News Fairy is here again!
http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/05/...aming-headsets MS has decided that it is time for all their customers to buy brand new headphones! Granted, it does mean they can offer superior sound, so it's not all bad news. But too bad to those who paid a small fortune for top of the line gaming headsets.

It will probably do well at launch, but who knows how it will fare when the general public starts having problems with it...
I can't see the dedicated ("hardcore") audience having much to do with this system, yeah. It seems designed deliberately to upset us. |

Actually, now that I've looked at things a bit more it's probably about equivalent to a Core 2 Quad or Phenom X4 - not as bad as I thought, actually. Assuming a workload that can actually take advantage of eight cores spread across two CPUs, of course. Still not sure why they did dual Jaguar (netbook/tablet) derived as opposed to single Richland (regular notebook) derived though, the latter seems to me like it would have been the natural fit for a console.
