Hopefully... I made it in time to edit it. Please tell me those who hadn't read the book haven't seen that... and if they did... pretend you didn't see anything.

Robb could have done a few things differently and he probably would have run

1. Don't send Theon to negotiate with Iron islands (He's your hostage remember)
2. Bite the bullet, and demand Frey Marry Rosalin to Robb as soon as possible.
3. Hold Karstark prisoner awaiting punishment at a later date. Make it clear to the Karstarks that their loyalty and conduct through the rest of the campaign can either positively or negatively effect how Robb judges the head of their household after the war.

This might also have an added effect that Tywin probably wouldn't arrange a marriage between Tyrion and Sansa. I get the feeling that he only felt secure in doing that because he knew that he was constructing a fairly solid plot against the Starks.

I managed to see the RW scene, inadvertently. It really was a heart breaking thing to watch. I'm not a reader of the books, but my sister is and she fills me in on future events. Even already knowing about it doesn't diminish the impact IMO. Dreadful stuff, justice doesn't exist in the GOT universe it seems.

I know some people who are arguing that it's over the top, "unrealistic" and done for "shock factor" and for the sake of "being edgy". However, I remember reading somewhere that the events were inspired by the extermination of the Douglas Clan during a dinner.

The instant people treats Game of Thrones as a history drama (in a fictional world) instead of a fantasy tale, the events of the Red Wedding becomes scarier because it may have happened somewhere in the past. I mean even World War II and all the wars after have accounts of various atrocities done by men against fellow men, women and children. Human cruelty and pettiness just have no limits. And the events of this episode is a reminder of it.

In my memory only the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre shown in the french history drama La Reine Margot have hit me as hard.

George R.R. Martin has revealed that the inspiration for the Red Wedding came from the Black Dinner.[5] The Black Dinner took place in 1440 when William Douglas, the 6th Earl of Douglas, was invited to a dinner with the ten year old King James II of Scotland. After the dinner the Clan Douglas chiefs were taken outside, given a mock trial and beheaded.

Part of what horrifies me in fantasy is that said fictional events are often inspired by random real life events... and it's often a soft version in fiction compared to the real deal.

So ep9 left me, while I am not easily swayed normally, with my jaw in the basement.
