Perhaps I'm weird (or being much too nice), but I liked it. Was it the best of first episodes? Absolutely not. But I didn't find it horrible or boring. I was pretty into it. Can't explain why.
Although, I suppose my largest pet peeve while watching it were the comedy-esque bits. They felt out of place for the times they occurred. I also didn't like how the sequencing of events were chopped up. Things would've had more impact if they were ordered differently, I felt. I love, love, love the color palette to pieces. So dream-like. Nice environmental work, too. It all reminded me of a well-designed fantasy RPG or something.

To be honest I had intend look on first episode just to make sure I didn't miss anything and drop it. I don't think it's possible anymore. Despite being solid drama it has just enough subtle humor not fall from drama to melodrama (which I dislike with passion). I like that humor
Also unlike others I don't find Ai annoying (yet at least), she has to be quite strong girl for her job. Quote:
Pretty much from very begenning I expected villagers be death already. If that were case It would perfect sense make Ai grave keeper in order rest in peace. And Silver said himself he didn't kill them, just "stoped them from moving" In this settings it's possible interpret it in any way, but ... It make me remember certain Manhwa that is nothing alike with this show. |

First episode was pretty good, i think. I like the premise, definitely, and the fact the "zombies" aren't totally zombies. The old man defending Ai from that dude surprised me, as I thought they would be stereotypical zombies, but I WAS WRONG.

It was a very fascinating first episode. There's a mystery set up right out of the gate, and I am very interested of learning just what it is about. I don't think we were supposed to feel a connection to the villagers that deeply TBH, given that we only have a single episode to really see their interactions. It's not the priority I think. The priority is the mystery. Just what is this girl exactly? Human? Gravekeeper? Something else? The god of this setting, taking human form?
It's a haunting world. And I think the whole village is supposed to give off uncanny valley vibes. What is this world exactly? How much of the story the girl has been fed is true? Perhaps everyone is dead, and every being is an intelligent zombie? Perhaps, the world hasn't been abandoned. It has been judged, and this is hell. Perhaps this is not the hell in the Abrahamic sense, this is a hell in the Dharmic sense, where the souls trapped in here must be put down by Gravekeepers, and thereon move on not to a heaven, but Nirvana instead. Maybe hell is full is only the partial truth. There's a huge waiting list in Pugatory, and Gravekeepers are sent in. And this girl is a "new model" Gravekeeper. Or perhaps indeed, she is her mother, reset, and convinced that she is her own daughter. Gravekeepers who die don't die. They are reset. Maybe? There's numerous directions this show can take, and I think we are in for a ride. Sadly, the moe-moe cuteness of MC-chan may not save this show. This kind of shows always seem to sell badly. |

Enjoyed the first episode, though I do wish that they didn't make her so ... cutesy since it makes her a bit cheesy and it would be easier to take her more seriously if she didn't talk and act like she was 5. However, I really feel that she's going to be someone that ends up being very special.
Overall the story is interesting and I'll probably continue to watch this until the end. I can tell it's going to get really gloomy haha. |

From the looks of it, it became a lot of complicated than that. Almost seemed like no more births could occur as well, if the village Ai lived in only consisted of 47ish people. There's also the problem of people not being able to regenerate and the trauma caused with seeing near dead people, as shown when the man trying to protect Ai could still move despite half his head being blown off.

Kinda pity the oji-san with wrecked skull who tried to protect Ai-chan. Getting shot down with Magnum 44, the most powerful handgun, must really hurt like hell.
And eh~, digging grave is a tough work even for adult male. Amazed how such little girl could pull it off and 47 graves to boot! (How many days it takes her to finish it?) |

A grave for a human would be at least twice as long, wide, and deep, and would probably have taken us at least 8 hours to dig in that soil, and about a month for my grandson to dig (though he'd give up after the first hour or so). Ah, over the years, many of those graves would have been filled back in, to some extent, with sediment, overgrown with weeds (and possible budding trees) and would not have been as fresh looking as all the graves we saw in the episode. The view of the graveyard was particularly unrealistic. |

But yeah all of those 47 holes look as if they were dug just yesterday with all the fresh soil left around the edges. |

Ai is really cute.
Hope this won't turn into a loli thing. That Humbert looks like an interesting guy. The story has potential. It all depends which way it'll go. So far it looks interesting so I think I'll be watching this.

This show reminds me a little bit of that manga as well, with the whole "they can only stay dead if buried" thing and gravekeepers serving special duties/having special abilities. It really needs an anime, imo.
