Need thoughts of an anime list for no otakus audience!

Hi, at every season i show once or twice some animes for my no otakus siblings and their no otakus boyfriend/girlfriend, and their tastes are refined, like : NO FANSERVICES AT ALL! Thats a no no, not too gore too, and not too childish... But for this summer my choices are so limited, so please Mademoiselles & Gentlemen of Animesuki, i need your thoughts about the choice!

EDIT : Forgot to mention it clearly, only animes of the summer 2013, and they already saw some must watch like Madoka, Fate Zero, Attack on Titan....

I recommend Chihayafuru. You should start with the first season (2011-2012).

If you must limit yourself to the current season, though I honestly cannot see why, then I'll suggest The Eccentric Family and Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi. Both of these are at Crunchyroll. If you're open to a summer, 2012, offering, try tsuritama, also at Crunchy.

The first of these is a dark comedy set in a Kyoto populated with tanuki (shape-shifting racoon dogs) and tengu (flying demons often associated with crows), along with its human inhabitants. The main character is a male tanuki who likes to shape-shift into girls. That's about the level of fanservice.

Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi is a pretty dark story with the occasional violent scene, though no real gore. I won't say more than that, though you should give it the standard three-episode trial run before deciding.

I will second Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi(Sunday Without God).

Gatchaman Crowds is quite an interesting anime too.

(And Crunchyroll recently added the shoujo classic Rose of Versailles so if you don't mind watching something from the late 70s/early 80s, I highly recommend that)

Too bad, my sister and my brother's girlfriend are watching it, so they knew about this already...

Because i already show them the best od the april 2013, and they only found The Overlord is working & Attack of Titan interesting(most for the latter)... I know about the Eccentric Family and watched the 2 first episodes, but i found it ininteressant, the arts & the musics are somehow blank, the story no captivating so i don't know if i will show to them... But about Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi, i believed it was the The World God Only Knows - Goddesses Arc! But looks like i was wrong! Thanks i will give it a try!

Another one put this choice, so this anime might be good!

Yeah, i already saw the 1st episode, nothing like the old Gatchaman of the 70', but it's quite unique the style... I put this on my list!

Well, i already saw it more than 20 years ago, they too, and they prefer to watch new things...

Thanks for your thoughts guys! And i already choose 2 other animes :

- WAKAMOTE : It might be a changing pace with an unpopular heroine, who fail miserably with everythings she try...

- Gen'ei o Kakeru Taiyo : The Madoka wannabe, the design look childish but the story is pretty dark and full of despair...

... So, any other suggestions?

The reason I asked why you are limiting yourself to Summer, 2013, is that there are dozens of appropriate shows from earlier years that I could name. Why limit yourselves to just this season?

From this season I also found Gin no Saji ("Silver Spoon") pretty interesting, and it has some of the cutest animals I've seen in some time.

Silver Spoon is the obvious one from this season.

Space Battleship Yamato 2199 is another option.

Free has fanservice, but it's mainly pecs and six pack abs beefcake aimed at women. So maybe that type of fanservice will go over more easily.

A Certain Scientific Railgun S is an iffy choice. This season has a very strong plot, and the fanservice is toned down quite a bit from the first season, but it still might be too much. If it isn't then you'd only really need to show one episode from the first season to make the second season make sense. (The episode where Mikoto and Touma have their fight).

From older seasons there is:

Cross Game
Big Windup
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Crest of the Stars
Hyouka
Kotoura-san
Tamako Market
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Kamisama Hajimemashita
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun
Bodacious Space Pirates
Daily Lives of High School Boys
Chihayafuru
Last Exile
Bunny Drop
Ano Hana
Hanasaku Iroha
Nichijou
Steins Gate
Tiger & Bunny

Have you really shown them all of those?

That's because it's a challenge, to prove to them that at each season the japanese's animes industries can still make good stuffs, but looks like the choices is less and less....

They already know about the manga, and the adaptation is not like with FMA...

Already show them, they're not interested...

My sister know about it, but maybe i put this one on my list...

Already show them Index & Raigun(the 1st) in the past, they didn't hook, but maybe i'll to show them directly the episode 5 of S...
They already knew most of those unfortunately(especially by my sister...), but thanks anyway...

It's been since 2007 that i try to show them animes, some seasons there's any at all, and there's time that it was a failure, none are interesting, but there's some few time that was a success, like High School of the Dead with Occult Academy...

EDIT : Sorry i was at work, so i can't detail my answers... I know that they're somewhat such a pain with their tastes, but they're not otakus and i'm taking their times for my selfishness, they watched Madoka, Fate Zero & Attack of Titan because i SHOW THEM, like a private projection in the past... Or else they will never knew about it, they're not hardcore like me who watch animes every days...

Servant x Service has some sexual harassment jokes, but that's about all the fanservice it has.
Watashi Ga Motenai also doesn't really have fanservice, and even in the few parts it does... it's more like fan DISservice.

There's no only sexual harassment jokes in it(saw the 1st two episodes...), but the main heroine have 'ahem' too big boobs, its fanservice for them...

Okay: Not too much gore, no fanservice... and they like Highschool of the Dead? I'd never have thought of that show. All the safe shows I'm following have already been mentioned (with the possible exception of Tamayura, but there's an OVA and season 1 they'd have to watch first, and it might be "too childish", depending on what they mean by that).

But if they like Highschool of the Dead, maybe some of the non-safe shows would work, too? I'm confused, to be honest.

Sorry, i know it's contreversal, but it's thanks to zombie apocalypse and well done animation which let it pass, after this exception i did a lot of mistake with other fan service animes(like the one with an alien cat girl with big chest iforgotthename), so they became disgusted by fanservices, that was my fault...

Time to go to work...

EDIT : *At workplace* Sorry again for not mentionning it first, the deadline is saturday, looks like i only have 3 days left... Maybe what i want to show them is 'unique' type anime, which can make a no otaku's audience interested on it, plus preferally made from this season for the challenge...

Not from this season but it's still on-going and you might not have thought about it: Uchuu Kyoudai/Space Brothers. It's an excellent series that appeals to a very broad audience.

C'est si bien que ça? Je veux dire ça fait plus d'une soixantaine d'épisodes déjà... Tried the 1st minutes on the first episode, and didn't hook it... Anyway i'll give it another try later...

... So anyones can tell me if Gen'ei o Kakeru Taiyo would be a good choice too?

Unfortunately it's shaping up to be one of those shows where you can't tell if it's any good until the final episode.

I'm currently watching it and so far it's pretty decent. If it stays that way until the final episode (and it will likely happen for me), then I would recommend it.

*25 hours later*

... Okay, this time is so so, here's the report of this afternoon :

When eating lunch, i launch the operation :

A MAD to give an anime feeling between each serie! And my first anime was : kole wa zombie desu ka? 1st episode! I know it's somewhat fanservices, but it was so funny that they forgive for this one! Success!
Next is this MAD :
, and the second serie was : WAKAMOTE! But it's depressing for them even if it's dark comedy... Fail...?
The next MAD :
followed by the 1st episode of... FREE!!! My little bro & my sister's boyfriend found it... Somewhat gay(and i used Commie's fansub which wrote Gay swimming above the title FREE!!! LOL!) The girls no comments(but they enjoyed some strip scenes)... Above average then.
The final MAD :
followed by the 1st episode of Gen'ei wo Kakeru Taiyou, my little bro found the character design looks like Skull Girls, but they're not so hooked with the dark story... So so...?
... I don't have any MADs anymore, so we watched Genshiken Nidame... They found it amusing and funny, above average then...
Next i use a new method to show animes, with the best episode and a verbal resumary before! It was Fate Kaleid Liner Prisma Ilya episode 4, they found it well animated, above average... And next is Toaru Kagaku no Railgun S episode 5, and there they're more attentive to the story, above average unfortunately(only my sister was interested to watch this serie later...)
... And since we only have 1/2 hout left i let them choose what they want to watch next, and it's.... Kole wa zombie desu ka? episode 2!!! They LOL'ed, it was a success again! And the few minutes left we watched the 1st episode of... RWBY... And they liked this fanmade anime, above average! (sorry SeijiSensei & AbZeroNow, i didn't have time to show them Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi!)

... So it's above average this projection, but i was disappointed because this season don't have caliber like Attack on Titan, but we have some fun... Thank you gentlmen of Animesuki, until newt season!

Its an older anime (2004 I believe), but Azumanga Daioh is definately worth checking out. IIRC, its rated PG, and at its absolute worst is only about as naughty as Rocko's Modern Life. Azumanga Daioh is one of the signature Slice of Life anime and can be best described as an aged up Peanuts in terms of its style. Also, it has a pretty respectible dub.

They know about the manga and my sister & her boyfriends are watching it, so there's no purpose to discovering here...

They knew the anime before the manga, i showed it years ago(at the area of the beginning of subbing...), so it's no a discovering too...
... Thank you for your thoughs guys, but it's already too late(i said the deadline was friday 9th at 12:00 PM UTC +01:00)... Anyway, any suggestions are welcomed for the next season!!!
