Rather specific plot/genre

First post

I'm looking for shows that feature a certain type of event/genre like below:

Probably an action show and during a big battle the MC gets separated from the main group and finds himself in a different area. He meets locals etc and has his own small plot from there. I also like it when the romantic interest in the series worries a lot about him and the group spend their time trying to find him. These times of separation usually have a lot of self introspection for the MC.

Please no - Ecchi/Hentai/Same sex romance/episodic (looking for good plots) shows.

Anything like it? Sorry for the weird specific request. Some examples:
  • In Eureka 7 when Renton gets picked up by Will and taken to his cottage where his wife Martha is suffering from Desperation Disease.
  • Gundam Seed when the Archangel crew think Kira is dead.

There is more, just can't think of them.

So far I've set up Macross Frontier to start with mainly because of the romance recommendations.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

07-Ghost - main chara gets separated from his close friend and his life environment changes as well.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood - eventually 2 brothers get separated.

Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic - a friendship of 3 forms who early in the series get separated and have to go through some hardships before they reunite again.

Seirei no Moribito - slightly different, main hero young prince is forced to leave the castle because of the circumstances. He is wanted dead. However, there are still those who care for him. Series show how he develops to new life and what happens in the castle. Different but really good. Worth the watch.

Kemono no Sou-ja Erin has some relevance here, though the main character is a girl, and there is little romance.

You might also give Guin Saga a try.

I'd go with Suisei no Gargantia since the premise is exactly what you described , a bit fanservicy but I wouldn't say it's an Ecchi.

Gargantia is definately within my Ecchi limit. I really liked the show and the plot had a lot more potential than 13 eps unfortunately.

Thanks for the recommendation, but seen

Seen Trigun and loved it. The few episodes/arc that you're talking about is a lot like what I'm looking for. Thanks for the recommendation!

Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars II (especially Banner II)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
I think Inuyasha had at least one plot like that.
The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (you'll have to watch The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya first).
Space Battleship Yamato
Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid
Martian Successor Nadesico

Definitely seconding the recommendation for FMP! The Second Raid.

I'll also throw out the later elements of Planetes. Has one of my favourite endings ever.

Thanks for the recommendation and while I usually try to test things out myself, looking at a lot of reviews this seems to have a fairly unstable plot and as per OP I need something that pulls me along and sucks me into the story.

If you haven't seen Xam'd Lost Memories, then I suggest that since that is also done by BONES and after the 2nd episode, the main character gets separated from his friends for quite a while.

I also recommend the Shinkai film The Place Promised in Our Early Days

Both of these I really loved.
