Though don't see why he couldn't use a past host( besides Gaara) to put Shukaku in to use.

a combo of 2 reasons with debatable logic. the first is that he didn't have a former host of shukaku to use. the other is that he was mimicking nagato's 6 paths with himself as the 7th. of course he didn't use them in the same fashion, but it could also have just simply been designed that way by kishi to make us think he would and to remind us of nagato's pain bodies. i think the primary reason was not having a former jinchuuriki though

what i figured was: they were all able to talk, because for an instant, all that were able to talk to naruto, was connected, via chakara and those rods. 4 tails was only able to show temporarily because he gave a very small part of his chakara to naruto.

Chibi Naruto & friends song was kinda cute and nice.
And we're back to strategies and seeing how others are dealing with the war.
They made a pretty good balance of showing all the important characters this time.
Seems like they'll all have their part in the final battle.
Looks like that's getting pretty close...

in addition to what itachi-san314 mention, the bijou likely need to be OUTSIDE the statue in order to communicate (in theory once they are in the statue they become more a part the larger being and thus may not necessarily exist.)
in other words, if you notice, son goku wasnt present when naruto spoke to the others because he sucked back into the statue. (that is, in the statue, cant talk). if shukaku was out on the battlefield with the others, he likley would have met naruto as well. but he wasnt cuz as mentioned previously there wasnt a former jinchuriki to put him in.

And yet it was almost totally canon. Kishi has to use setup chapters to you know. And Sasuke entering the battlefield was important. Plus the K11 speeches were nice.

I also love when they show how the troops are dealing with war.

then 10:30 covering chapter 573 the corniest chapter in the Naruto manga! so at least it won't be that bad ever again! always look on the brightside afterall.

Yeah, the episode only covered 1 manga chapter. Next episode should be just as slow, too. According to the titles for the upcoming episodes, things should pick up again as we enter the next part of the arc (which should also coincide with the start of the new OP).
