Group knock-offs... They grind my gears!

Remember how many eating utensils were subbing Fullmetal Alchemist?

Spoon, Spork, Fork, Chopstick... I can't remember.

Remember how many copycats for Gundam SEED and Destiny?

Haro^2, Tori^2, Cellphone^2... I can't remember.

Chopstick was a parody group. Fork was started as a joke. Spork never subbed FMA. Cellphone^2 was made as a joke originally, then the TL'er decided to drag it on longer. Haro^2 & Tori^2 was an extension of the Haro^2 group who subbed SEED.

In other words... what is your point?

I think his point is that people should be more original when they name their groups.

Exactly, at least vulture with style.

Haro^2 / HaroTori weren't necessarily vulture groups though. It should be noted that they picked up out of nowhere when the series (SEED/GSD) became licensed, and the prime groups dropped it--particularly AonE and A-Kingdom.

Do note their subtlety.

I wanted to name my parody group Chopstick because it was a parody group and the name was intended as a parody of the Spoon/Fork stuff going on at the time, and I named Cellphone^2 in the same way because it was also supposed ot just be a joke after the first week. Draders also named Fork as a joke because FMA 40 said "Sub Me" on mirc's torrent listing. It started as a joke and now they're Nanashi. The point was: They were named with the intention of as jokes, not vultures like you insist.

Wasn't Starks other thread about not letting other fansubbers interefere with other fansubbers decisions? Doesn't this count as interfering with what a person wants to name their group? I mean, that IS a decision. o_O

And yes xat, that is what I was getting at about the Haro^2 stuff. If you didn't know that Haro^2 was Akingdom... and if you ("you" referring to the... err general public) still didn't know that Haro^2 & Tori^2 was A-Kingdom (Haro) and AonE (Tori)... then... well... yeah... I mean... if hte logo, dialogue font, karaoke, and every other damn thing didn't give it away...

While on the topic of original names, I still find it funny that most groups use "Anime" in their title <_<;

Well, I'll say this... when deciding what to name my relatively recent (less than a year) old group, I specifically decided NOT to name it "Anime-something" because I felt that naming convention had gone out of style, plus having Anime is the name is really pretty dumb at this point.

My perception (maybe inaccurate) was that newer groups tended not to have anime in their names. I'd have to actually research some statistics, though, to prove it one way or the other.

You have kids?!

Oh yeah, "Spork" was just made up by fans as a new word. :O I think also, "Toaster" was forming, but then they decided not to go through with it.

I have used sporks. They are best used with fruit cocktails and chili fries / nachos.

I still don't get where 'nanashi' came from, someone pls explain, thanks.

LOL toaster was a group started by a guy named Zed who was kicked out of fork becuase he was really immature and causing too much trouble for everyone else in the group. It never did take off though which didn't surprize me in the least :P

Edit: Nanashi formed when fork and gsd merged together, fork wanted to change it's name since it misrepresented what we now wanted to do (real subs lol) as well as somewhat was disrespectful to spoon. The reason we merged was mostly to pool our resources together, though we got off to a rocky start, right now things are pretty good. There's only 5 origional members left in the group.
