Multilegged mecha may not cut it. The idea is that the Formula Frontal makes its debut when an OC Academy student gets kidnapped, and the Frontal's user (whom is also the creator) goes Sideswipe on the kidnappers' car. (Okay, maybe not the part where the car gets sliced)

And yes, the Frontal is transformable, the alternate form being a bike. Also the creator's female.

If Frontal has enough kick on it's booster, as well as enough grip on it's feet, the armor can just hold the car and lift it slightly (especially if it's FWD car)

In this scenario, one has to be careful. Modern car are designed to crumple under impact to reduce g-load during accident.

Would blowing out the rear tires be a viable measure to slow down a speeding car? The Frontal's maybe transformable but it has the armor integrity and hydraulics to just rip a car door open with ease.

Thought maybe the car be slowed down enough for the Frontal user to pull out the student without much risk of running into things.

Problem of blowing car tires is at high speed, the repulsion forces often high enough to destabilize or flip it

At low speed it's advantageous, at high speed it was dangerous

Ripping the door sounds cool, hopefully it also has enough dexterity not to crush the student

Thing is, they protag OCs don't have such equipment at their disposal. And it would also make it more difficult to rescue the captive student since the kidnappers have nothing else to look out for.

In high-speed pursuit, the kidnappers have to make sure they don't run into things AND keep an eye on the captive to make sure she doesn't do anything funny.

EDIT:

Watching this gives me idea of having the Minerva's flight sub-unit outfitted with rocket launchers, some of which are filled with beam-dispersion particles. And Inami uses them the first time he faces the Golem I, using it to render the IS' beam weapons useless.

She walks away. And all Ichika can do is stare dumbly after her. Wondering if that was a real confession of love.

“How could be… this girl-”

No less than two Raphael revive and three Uchigane slumped, coolant leaked purposefully to avoid damage. Their pilots… they looked down in disbelief, can only feel despair and helplessness.

How could a freshman beat all of them so easily? Even discounting the fact that she’s a cadet representative with personal unit, she’s fighting against five, FIVE sophomores at once! The winning possibility should be close to Zero, and by any means, that battle just now is not a fluke.

Her eyes, her eyes set straight… not at them, but at the sole girl standing on top of the catapult.

“As expected of the strongest cadet representative…” she laughed softly “I apologize, my friend… I should’ve warned you more often, hopefully we can avoid this next time”

“Shut up, we’re just reckless that’s all” one of the Uchigane pilot said “But really, this girl is Orimura-sensei’s sister huh… monstrous talent and all, how envious”

Although they wanted a rematch, the freshman’s friends don’t seem to agree with their intention. And they don’t want to risk being beaten to pulp twice.

It’s their fault for trying to bully younger pilots coming to the second arena;, they really don’t know that could backfire so horribly. Ashamed, they all left peacefully with their machines.

“Why haven’t student council done anything?” the freshman shouted “Wasn’t that your job to handle everything?”

“We’re understaffed I’m afraid” the girl on the catapult answered “If you can join us, surely this won’t happen in the future”

The freshman shook her head “I sincerely apologize… I don’t think I’m up for the task”

He is not an amateur, for sure.

In the regard that he regularly become a sandbag for professional pilot, at the very least he need to be able to keep up so he could survive.

But that alone is not enough.

It was when he was evaluated he realize how far he was left behind by everyone, that most of his training being sink or swim doesn’t help at all. He is dragging them down, and he won’t let it happen once again.

This time he was sure.

Stepped into the arena once again, he felt an eerie sensation.

Lingyin is there waiting, I.S. fully operational.

“Lingyin…?”

He decided not to call her ‘Rin’, that would be too comfortable, and if she’s the same as the Rin he knew, she probably won’t find that endearing for a while.

“All out, not handicap” she grinned, shadow covered her eyes, he can’t really see through “This is your initiation test”

“Initiation test?” he raised his eyebrow.

“To begin with, Class 1-1 is impossibly stacked” she muttered “If you’re as strong as I though, perhaps it’ll change”

Too bad, nothing would change, not that soon.

Booster howled and in the blink of an eye, they’re clashing full power, edge meet edge, blinding spark ignited by the sheer force involved.

Lingyin’s grin spread even wider.

“Spare no chance huh, brother” she commented tauntingly “You know the full power of my Ryuuhou, Ichika-kun?”

“Yes” he said calmly “I know both its strongest point and weakness”

She laughed, before splitting her blades into two pieces and attacked him from blind spot. He also knew this part of her, she’s the most inexperienced cadet rep, but she’s a genius on her own. Her basic knowledge on anti-I.S. tactic and how smoothly she can apply it in real time combat is no joke, perhaps even better than Cecilia, who is far more seasoned.

“If I attacked from the front, she’ll overpower me. If I attacked from range, I have to deal with those powerful cannons. Let’s try that trick once again”

If it was any other machine, they won’t be capable to handle the burden, but like the predecessor machine -ByakuShiki, Raijin is designed with brute force in mind. Able to withstand acceleration and deceleration that will tore first generation machine apart, its greatest specification is geared toward high speed combat.

And so, he zig-zagged across the arena, evading dozens upon dozens thermal-infused vacuum waves.

“It’s been upgraded huh” he muttered, ready to cleave her from behind.

She reacted instantly by spun her body, which would easily cause lesser pilot to lose balance, but not her. Again, she withstood the attack without problem.

“Same trick won’t work twice” She shouted, setting her engine at overdrive and slammed Raijin to the arena barrier.

“Guh, what do you mean-“

“I was defeated by your girlfriend that way” Lingyin smiled bitterly “I was too reckless, one direct hit is all she need, after all”

“Who?” he blinked.

“Geez, you’re so dense!” he tilted his head right to avoid her blade “The other Ichika, of course!”

Indeed, Icchan become the strongest cadet rep because her infamy at utilizing Yukihira efficiently; and yet in different way than her sister did in the past. In both her official fight, she absolutely thrashed Cecilia and Rin, and her fighting footage with Laura is absolutely terrific.

He wondered, if he’s able to use his own Yukihira half as good at her…

No, that’s not the point. The point is that he’s studying half-assedly and no one ever tell him straight about anything. If he can study half as good… that would be enough.

He took out a pistol from his left holster and shot her repeatedly until the shield breaks, the blinding light caused by bullets hitting her second defense distracted her. Ichika waste no time and deliver a finishing move, blade charged with thunderous energy.

But she dropped herself aside to avoid direct hit, lightning blade only meet air and grazed her absolute defense, too little damage or drain.

“Kesagiri huh” she smashed his sword away with an impressive hook, as if those fist are rocket propelled. This followed by an uppercut that threw him five meters away.

Not leaving him free she took her sword and boost forward, swung her blade so hard that he will be ended right there if not for his reckless move of boosting backward so close to the ground that he almost shred himself apart.

“Even your finishing move is similar”

Bleeping sound warned her from an ambush, she blinked. When she realized it was a trick and turn her attention back, she was greeted by high velocity grenade.

Thankfully she managed to evade, but what scared her is what happened next.

The grenade went SPLAT on the arena barrier, microsecond before energy buildup caused a massive thermal shockwave; a pointblank detonation would easily cripple most I.S. and took a lot of energy to neutralize.

“What a scary weapon” Rin gritted her teeth, looking at his smoking carbine “That was a bit weaker than my cannon at full power”

“I don’t want to use Raijin’s special equipment yet” he said, storing his weapon “But it’s impossible to win this to begin with, so I won’t spare anything in this fight”

Lingyin’s eyes widened in excitement, she screamed as her cannon building its power and pressure “BRING IT ON!”

It’s as if the dimension itself ripped apart, the resulting vacuum imploded with massive amount of energy, forming a small trench across the arena and insurmountable dust cloud.

Even arena barrier has limit, flickering helplessly after two powerful hits. It managed to recover from the shock, but then again, so are the combatants.

And they decided to go all out.

The arena operator wondered if she had to tell the maintenance crew to work extra.

...yep, that's what it's designed for. .50 Cal Bullet + Engine block = No longer moving car.

...or truck.

...or light armored vehicle.

...uhm, now that I think about it, the impact from a .50Cal might shake up an IS wearer even with the PIC active...
