lol No, I live in Los Angeles. It can get a bit chilly here during the evenings/night during summer, but even during the day I wear one when out. I dislike being cold and I have a fair tolerance for the heat. But it probably helps that we don't generally have high humidity, which I think they might in Japan.

I gave the series alot of shit this week: But godamn if that first fireball didn't make one of the most excessive explosions I've seen in anime. As a whole the amount of visual flair the series musters is pretty much untouched, but that explosion deserves special mention.

And to actually take part in the ongoing discussion, the Japanese islands are in the temperat reagion. I can assume they are on Honshu or Kyushu, both of which have tmepatures comparable to the american midwest.

To be honest, that is the point. Because..., lets face it: If we're talking about action/battle scene in Anime TV, there are only two possibilities: lazily animated or badly produced (including shitty CG execution).

The episode emphasizes on Mitsuki's character while fleshing her personality going beyond being a friend of Akihito. The one thing I appreciated about her is when she befriends Mirai without worry and doesn't mind her going out with Akihito even though she doesn't like how he claims Mirai to be the pinnacle of glasses girl archetype. I also hoped her older brother Hiromi to get more characterization as well. The cliffhanger when they are watching the night sky at summer festival was beautiful to watch. The episode also included a bit of maid service and how Mirai find out that Ai is a youmu, which I didn't expect it as well. The series was above average at best, it had a nice concept to boot, it's nothing outstanding but make it enough to be one of the refined series of the season. As for next episode, it'll better flesh out Hiromi if the studio wanted it to happen.

Episode 5 was the best so far for me, probably because it didn't try as hard as the previous episodes. An entire episode dedicated to girls bonding where the story flowed naturally, with amazingly none of the "forced moe" that has plagued the series. Mitsuki is nice and Mirai has become a lot more tolerable as of late, she actually seems like an actual character now.

I don't understand why Mitsuki changed her mind and went with her to the festival. Was she pitying Mirai that never had seen it or something like that?

Also, Hiroomi's reaction in the final scene to his sisters request was hilarious!

Don't get your hopes up, folks. Even slowed down, speedlines, blur, and bloom prevent you from getting a good look at Ai's pictures. Surely you didn't expect otherwise. Although you can tell that she is indeed bustier than she looks.

I could feel some real sadness coming off of Mitsuki this episode, no matter how well she kept her poker face. No matter what her family tells her, I can't believe she's truly better off isolating herself like that.

I just finished episode 5. The first half was pretty uneventful so I can't really say much about it... doesn't help that I was almost falling asleep when I was watching this(this is not to say that the show was boring... I was just really sleepy since it's late here and I was lying down while watching this).

The second half... I dunno I feel like some of the scenes didn't really flow quite well. Like after the scene where they are eating at the restaurant it switches into Sakura then switches to a Mitsuki flashback that felt kinda random at this point then switches to Akihito skipping classes then switches Mirai and Mitsuki at the shop. At this point even the last bit where Nase and Mirai are suddenly alone in the forest(can you feel the love tonight?) feels kinda random to me.

Also if normal people cannot see youmu then how is Sakura killing youmus? Sakura is pretty much a normal person as Mirai have mentioned that Sakura has no powers at all.

Consequences from previous episode..
Guess they were treated lightly after all.
Pretty relaxed episode, at least the first half.
More normal (school) life than before.
Second half definitely improved the overall impression.
Looks like Akihito is a good influence on Kuriyama.
Her behavior and self confidence have definitely improved.

I agree completely about this episode. But for me Mirai has been a fascinating character from the beginning, not in the least annoying, and if there was any forced moe, I guess I just accepted it as normal.

Certainly, the story flowed better this time. I see this episode was storyboarded and directed by Yamada Naoko, the director of the K-On shows and Tamako Market. She hasn't directed any other eps. All episodes have been written by Hanada Jukki.

But yeah, this was the most satisfying episode for me, too -- in part, perhaps, because so little time was spent fighting, lol. More character and relationship stuff is good. It's as if Mirai has been released a bit and now she is able to release Mitsuki a bit from her own self-imposed limitations.
