Still, the JSDF would do well to keep a healthy fear of magic, but if it came to full scale war, how many actual magicians does Eldant have, how many would keep casting under fire...and for how long could they sustain it (if we think in terms of endurance/mana/spells per day) ? On the other hand, any JSDF grunt could probably kill a good dozen infantry with just a clip |

Still, if they used magic to attack Japan, and Japan built nuclear weapons, which the Japanese could do very quickly if they wanted to, and retaliated with them, it would likely result in widespread destruction on both sides, but with Eldant probably coming off worst, with given that the radioactive fallout would render area uninhabitable, preventing any rebuilding and reinhabitation. In other words, a bad outcome for both sides- Eldant would be devastated, Japan would suffer severe damage and casualties, and Eldant would be useless to Japan in terms of raw materials. In my opinion, there are two possibities if the war were to occur. The first possiblity is a final, but bloody Japanese would keep fighting, perhaps with political spinning of the this as war of liberation of the downtrodden classes of Eldant, perhaps also supported the simple idea of national pride- We are not going to be defeated by these medieval-level primitives who probably don't even understand the concept of a heliocentric solar system! Japanese victory could also occur more quickly if the Japanese convince the elves and dwarves that they being treated as little more than slaves under the present leaders of Eldant, and they should join their side and fight for their freedom. They might also promise that they would be the new leaders of Eldant, or, for those victims of any mistreatment that might have occurred, the simple promise of revenge might be enough. With the combined force of the JSDF's firepower, the elves' magic, and the dwarves strength, the human rulers of Eldant would likely be forced to surrender. What happens after that, however, would depend on a number of factors, such as whether Japan delivers on promises autonomy of the new Eldantan government, and whether the dwarves and elves find a way to put aside their differences and come to a compromise on government, or whether the two sides start fighting each other, leading to civil war. Finally, it is possible that Eldant could become "Japanese for Vietnam". While the firepower of JSDF automatic weapons, tanks, aircraft etc manages to cause enough damage to allow them to defeat the Eldant Army in open conflict, assuming the elves and dwarves remain on the side of Eldant, they resort to guerilla tactics- firing off attack magic, then retreating. These hit and run attacks cause enough Japanese casualties that citizens lose their support of the war, resulting in either a peace settlement, or more likely, withdrawal of JSDF forces and the sealing off of the portal- covering it with hardened steel and/or concrete plates or something. That said, the more likely solution thus far is a more diplomatic one- with the growing popularity of Japanese popular culture in Eldant, which will no doubt be followed by demand for other things from Earth, such as widespread development of electricity, indoor plumbing, medicine, technology etc, both sides are in a position where they can both come to an agreement where they mutually benefit: The Japanese can promise to aid Eldant in its development, while they are given access to natural resources such as oil, minerals etc. That said, this will only work if the Japanese leaders learn from European period of colonization- that you cannot keep a colony forever, and that, ideally, they should allow Eldant to keep its autonomy, and not overexploit the resources, so Eldant can develop into a modern nation-state, though this would obviously take hundreds of years for full development. Eventually, Eldant and surrounding countries in the world on the other side of the portal might even become members of the UN. Eventually, if everything went well, it is likely that political reform would likely take place in Eldant, Petrarca could probably be convinced to take steps towards democracy simply if it meant she could hand a lot of the paperwork down to some elected official! Not to mention there are already improvements in race relations and increased literacy. |

Imagine if the fighting spreads through the portal, the US will use this chance to place its troops in Japan to 'help' it's ally. China will use UN muscle to sends its troops as part of a UN 'peacekeeping' task force. In the end, even if Japan wins, it now has both US and Chinese troops in its borders, fighting to control the portal. If war breaks out Japan will probably just end up shutting down the portal until they can figure out a better strategy later. Getting either the US or China involved will probably send the entire region into chaos. |

Even if they don't go to war Japan will not like its new position with every world power trying to exert influence over them. Last edited by RobotCat; 2013-12-18 at 21:50. |

"On the other hand, any JSDF grunt could probably kill a good dozen infantry with just a clip" Spoiler for Well...from LN:
Just remember, this is not GATE,the system nothing like GATE,don't let this LN/manga effect you(i think that's the reason of "why some people think Japan can beat Eldant easily in this series"),it's more closer to Index series(for the power level of magic vs tech),even whole earth come to fight in magic world, still doesn't mean they can win Spoiler for Even Petrarca:
The last episode should be adaptation last chapter of LN vol.2,and should be enough to include everything from the chapter Last edited by D-Joe; 2013-12-19 at 01:51. |

This was a really surprising series coming into this season. All the episodes were consistently funny and the underlying themes were pretty well developed culminating in a really satisfying ending that still opens up for future development.

For a second I thought he was going to confess to Miusel, which I would've been completely alright with because she's so adorable.
I agree. I wasn't sure what to think, but each episode was consistently good. I hope they make another season.

Uhm, no Japan couldn't use nuclear weapons, or much of anything really, since there is only ONE way into Eldant. Once the portal was found, it would be game over for Japan if they were trying to invade. They run right into enemy fire the second they came out of the portal.
