Good news.
Was kinda expecting it since they picked up Kiniro Mosaic and that did fairly well, while this is kinda broadly cut from the same cloth.... Edit: Adding some extra info here that showed up this evening. On the Gochuumon official website they have begun releasing special imgs and art and the like - some of which is quite nice. Here is the link: http://www.gochiusa.com/contents/special/index.html Here are some sample images of what I presume to be some of the different cafes the main characters work in:

I've made a characters/seiyuus page for this show, with images of the five main characters and their seiyuus (in the order given on the official site's cast list), and some info about each seiyuu. I intend to add more characters when their images are posted on the official site (especially Hayami Saori's character, lol).

Sometimes I think this series is on only about a dozen fellow members to watch list from A-S considering the hushed level of "hype" thus far.

Hmm. Well, first off I must say that the backdrops were animated with an amazing degree of loving care - especially the town and house interiors. Just plain beautiful. Hopefully they can keep that level of animation up throughout the entire series.
Unexpectedly there is a level of mini-supernaturalness involved in the story - that hit me out of left field. Just like KinMoza, though, the charas are the main draw. Cocoa is a complete example of the cheerful genki girl and is a math prodigy of sorts as well as having natural talents (was not expecting that either). Chino is indeed adorable, but I don't know about "the most adorable thing this side of Saturn". . Rize is KinMoza's Ayaya with incredible military skills, extraordinarily athletic ability and inhuman artistic skills (I lol'd at the tank). I kinda like Chino's father as well, though we have not really seen a lot of his character. The producers cranked up the moe on this series - it is seriously trying to melt the faces right off of the skulls of the viewers (it goes beyond just rotting the teeth), and it mostly succeeds, but there were moments when I felt it was trying too hard. If it had just kept to itself I personally would have been comfortably reduced to a puddle of quivering nothingness via disintegration by moe beam, but as it was I felt kinda chopped up by axe-moe instead. tl;dr? I loved it, but not quite the masterpiece level of Mushishi S2 (perhaps an unfair standard to hold the series this season to, though). Insta-followed. I'll take another one, please. ^^

Talk about relaxing. Struggle as I may, I can't resist.... So nothing happened. So it's "cute girls doing cute things." But sooo cute, and so healing.
I started off finding Sakura Ayane's (Cocoa's) voice too harsh. But it worked its happy magic on me as the show went on. Taneda Risa was excellent, well-rounded, as the gun-toting lonely girl. But the voice I most enjoyed was that of Minase Inori as the boss's daughter. She is only 18 and was so effective as Suzu in Love Lab last year. Hayami Shou's deep mellifluousness as the master was a nice touch. I'm not about to compare this to Mushishi, which seems a more serious (self-important?) show, but that's an interesting thought. I loved the first ep of Mushishi 2, but it's the first ep of Mushishi I've ever really liked, so we'll see how things go.

Actually the comparing to mushishi s2 was purely on the level of personal evaluation and enjoyment. They are beyond apples and oranges to me - more like arugula and blueberries... or something.

I enjoyed this episode. Sure, it felt a little too sugary once or twice, but that's nothing I'd hold against it. Chino is so cute and the latte art made me laugh so hard I couldn't breathe. I forgot what kind of art style that's called.
We get to see school next episode. I'm glad that the entire show won't take place inside the cafe. Was not expecting the certain fantasy element, but I guess it fits with the aesthetic of the city.

Gotta love those idylistic european towns anime loves to depict where people behave very japanese like.
Great episode. Laughed a few times. Surely it is a complete moe overkill that isn't my forte but I stick around not many things to pick this season. |

Arugula and blueberries are both among my favorite foods, lol. I admit I was wondering what about the two shows was similar -- maybe the comparative quietness? And, as far as the first episodes of both are concerned, my enjoyment, too. In this show, the personalities of the people so far introduced are all fairly delightful. Some "cute girls doing cute things" shows have not reached me: K-On and Tamayura, for two. But this one does, so far.

These kinds of shows are surely becoming dangerous for my heart. Well, I survived Kiniro Mosaic and Non Non Biyori, what's one more?
I found the cast quite charming so far, though I'm not entirely sure what to think of the "rabbit". When the rest of the cast turns up (next episode, presumably), we will see how the overall ensemble holds up. I hope that there will be interesting customers in the cafe, in addition to the girls' interactions. It'd be nice to see that village come to life a little more. All in all I'm pleased with the first episode, it will be nice to add it to my weekly schedule this season. |

Very impressed with the first episode. Although White Fox's animation comes through with very polished quality (especially the backgrounds and colouring), I have to say their character animation doesn't succeed at staying as on model/appealing as other slice of life anime. However, the humour and general execution really does shine, which I will attribute to both the source material and the competence of the animation team.
Although Gochiusa's opening didn't strike me with quite as much heartwarming/moe overflow as the first episode of Kiniro Mosaic, it gives me quite a lot more confidence for the overall run of the series thanks to actually being based on the source material. Given that the only well executed episodes of Kinmoza's run IMO were the first and last anime-original productions, Gochiusa stands a good chance of competing with Yuyushiki for me for the best of Kirara's post-Hidamari SoL adaptations. We will see. |
