Ar no Surge RPG Linked to Ar Tonelico With Shurelia's Return
Game developer Gust confirmed more ties between its upcoming PlayStation 3 role-playing game Ar no Surge ~Umareizuru Hoshi e Inoru Uta~ and its earlier Ar Tonelico RPGs.
Ar no Surge director Akira Tsuchiya also worked on Ar Tonelico, and administrator Shurelia from the first Ar Tonelico PlayStation 2 game, 2006's Ar Tonelico : Melody of Elemia (Aru toneriko: Sekai no Owari de Utai Tsudzukeru Shōjo), will play a major role in Ar no Surge's story. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...hurelia-return

Is anyone else playing this thing...?
It is flat out insane. Half of it is tsundere harem tropes, and the other half feels like it was written by Tolstoy after somebody tied him to a chair and held his eyes open, Clockwork Orange style, and forced him to watch 2001: A Space Odyssey 500 times in a row. |

It sounds like both of these are in preparation for a western release. I'm hoping they do a major rework of Ceil, honestly.
Without its predecessor, Ar No Surge is incoherent. You won't have the slightest clue what's going on. But Ceil in its present state could never be released in the west; it's this weird slow game about reading in barcodes and sitting around and waiting. I love the setting, characters, and music, and I never got anywhere with it at all. |

I remember they did say that Ar Nosurge was made to be a standalone game, so I guess it's not that much of a trouble. Also with the Ar tonelico knowledge I have I hope it won't be confusing. By the way, good news:
Tecmo Koei announces Ar Nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star for PS3 in Europe! Hopefully there won't be any DLC, since I can't buy digital content from EU.

There is a fairly short segment near the end that takes place in the world of Ar Tonelico 1, but that game's like 10 years old now. I beat it and I still didn't remember any of the references. |

^You mean one of the heroines, right?
But after read what you wrote......I wonder how they expect us to understand the story without knowing those things from the prequel. Sure, I understand that there are those recaps, but from what you told us, seem to me that they don't help us at all.
