I'm now totally used to the style and I actually think it looks really cool. I'm sad that I was critical of it earlier because I really liked it now. This is one of the better shows this season IMO. It's nice because I really like Nobunaga history and this is probably the best rendition I've seen of it in a LONG time. ![]() |

I'm keen on Episode 5 as we will get to see what's going on with the real Nobunaga. I think he will come back to provide political assistance to Saburo. The ED had him back-to-back with Saburo. I'm assuming that means Nobunaga will cover Saburo's back while Saburo fronts the “collaboration".

I think they're doing it not in order rather than actually cutting chapters. I read a bit of the manga too you know.

Saburou sure impressed me with his ingenious strategies. Eventually he may even be as good as my other tactical genius hotties. Adding him to my tactical hotties harem is just a matter of time.
Ep 4 was great. It's too bad I didn't get to see how he won the battle but Saburou's interactions with the others made me laugh. "What is a rida?" "Good job", thumbs up. ![]() |

Episode 5.
Saburo gave his porn mag to Matsudaira Motoyasu (future: Tokugawa Ieyasu), then named as Matsudaira Takechiyo when he was a kid. XD Later in the episode, Motoyasu informs Saburo that he is changing his name to Tokugawa Ieyasu which, of course, catches Saburo by surprise as it dawns on him who this loyal supporter of him is XD This is the first time that we really see that time has passed a few years. There's a new kink happening towards the end. Won't say what until the subs come out for you guys. The question is, will there be a change in history? I'm enjoying this series. |

The first scene with Ieyasu was hilarious, I had to pause the video until I stopped laughing.
![]() I like Hideyoshi, too, he's such a great character, with great acting by Nakamura Yuuichi (what he's doing here reminds me of Namikawa Daisuke in Shinsekai yori). He keeps stealing every scene he is in, except perhaps the ones he shares with Saburou - in those both characters really shine. I just can't make up my mind about Saburou. There are scenes where it's obvious that he's not just an idiot who keeps getting lucky, and that he does think things through in his own way, it's just that his way of thinking is completely different from everyone else's. But in other scenes he still comes off as ignorant, careless and/or just plain stupid... ![]() Quote:

BTW:I think it's best if we discuss what happens in the manga in the actual manga thread. I get a feeling that the mods might get angry soon. Last edited by Avrorrange; 2014-08-09 at 10:16. |

anyway,, how about the timeline.. i assume saburo time slip is around 1553 when hirate died.. and then skipped to 1556 when saito dosan died.. and then skipped again to 1560 when battle of okehazama happened.. and i don't know what year is it in episode 5.. so it's been 7++ years since saburo slipped through time?

I wonder what Saburou had the man write in those love letters. And Ieyasu's face looks too cute. Finally the reason behind why he has so many wives is revealed. Saburou is great as always. I love him, so casual, silly, free, and unpredictable. I laughed when he said "I don't know what I stepped on so don't put those sandals in your pockets." It's too bad saru burned his book. (Every time I see saru, I have the urge to punch him.)

I just finally saw episode 5. Wow that was another great episode.
![]() I'm really enjoying this show, and I have to say that the animation is definitely amazing for me now, anyway, and I really liked the live-action/animated style, which really looks fantastic. This episode was hilarious, and the love letters used, lol. ![]() ![]() Lol @ Tokugawa Ieyasu... Mr. womanizer... ![]() ![]() Either way, I love this show, and I'm really enjoying it. I can see why it is indeed so high-profile now. The worksmanship is phenomenal. |

Episode 6.
Saburo nicknames him Mitchi.. ![]() The episode ends with Saburo and his entourage leaving Kyoto and passing by.. Spoiler:
Out of all the anime shows starting this summer, this show has become the most enjoyable to me. Not necessarily the best, but definitely the one that I look forward to and enjoy the most. When the synopsis of this show came out, I was wondering, "What?! Another Nobunaga-related show?" I was prepared to ignore it. Then, when seeing that the manga series it is based on won the Shogakukan Manga Award for Shounen manga in 2011, I thought I should just give it a try. No regrets at all ![]() EDIT: Forgot to mention, the ED visuals have been updated. |

Er, Saburou... I'm not good at birds either, but how can you not tell the difference between a duck and a heron....
![]() What an episode! (And by the way, bleh to all the Kaji Yuuki haters out there.) Spoiler for ep 6:
And in the ED Saburou's name has changed to "NOBUNAGA" (but he still has the same "hates studying" "bad at history" etc. signs) and Nobunaga's to "MITSUHIDE" (with the same "Devil King" "Tenka Fubu" etc. signs), and the second half has added the real Nobunaga, plus scenes of the two Nobunagas together. Yes, I also think this is where it's going, Spoiler for speculation:
Same here - along with Bakumatsu Rock this series is what I enjoy the most in this season. It's not perfect, I'm still not happy about the face animation, and you can tell that the writers are rushing, but the story makes up for everything. It's such a pity that this series is so short, it would've deserved at least two cours... alas, it seems the bulk of the budget went to the TV drama. :/ Last edited by kuromitsu; 2014-08-16 at 06:14. |

Don't know what brought the glut of Nobunaga re-imaginings all of a sudden, but this one is the best yet (my favorite prior to this was Oda Nobuna no Loli).
I can see why people might dislike the animation, but it was obviously an artistic direction and this anime gave every sign of having very high production values and excellent direction behind it. The music, the environment, the voice-acting, the design, even the clever way they avoid the harsher scenes -- like the entire Battle of Okehazama -- all these appear to fit in more with an expensive NHK historical drama than an ordinary anime series. As for the story itself, Saburou is an enigmatic protagonist. We aren't able to get into his head and I think that's the best way to go about it, especially as it fits well with the animation style that somehow seems to go out of its way to restrain Saburo's range of expressions, in comparison to every other character around him. I hope the author of the source material was willing to deviate from history, though. It's no fun if Saburou starts engaging in the atrocities the historical Nobunaga is famous for. If there's a major flaw it's that the passage of time is unaccounted for. In real life Oda Nobunaga spent many years fighting province-by-province; Mino itself took six years to fall. Time seems to be moving similarly here, too, given Tokugawa Ieyasu's growth, but there's an incongruent feeling that things just happen in faster sequences, like in the Nobuna no Loli version where the major events of Nobunaga's life were condensed to a few hectic years, at most. I was also taken off guard by the sudden appearance of (a very feisty, best imouto) Oichi and the nice relationship she seems to already have developed with her bro 2.0 somewhere off screen. |
