Maybe you should read VN again, Archer used one sword even in original scene from VN, so there was BIG reason for it.

Nope, still Shirou. Rin's the love interest and deuteragonist, though.

Why Archer did it? You're right, just because. He wanted to mess around with Lancer. He already did by going into close combat in the first place.

Why ufotable did it? Because that's what happened in the Visual Novel. They are just faithful to the source.

When Rin was standing over the boy's dying body and said that she couldn't "look her in the eye" were we suppose to know who "her" was? Or did I not pay attention enough

The episode didn't say. There are those that know who she was referring to, but they'll get slapped if they say it right out. It should become very clear by the next episode, though.

Wait a week to find out. You never completely saw his face in this episode, so you don't know either who Rin meant, when she said "her".

I don’t know, man. If someone were to ask me which is cooler: Archer dual-wielding or single-wielding, I’d answer dual-wielding right away. So in this case, I agree with DEEN :P. And there’s no right or wrong when it comes to cool factor.

THE HYPE IS REAL!

I love the way Rin is protrayed in this prologue. Her bantering with Archer is just perfect. Also, I'm so glad we finally see her do some awesome magecraft. In the Deen adaptation the only thing I remember is her shooting her jewels which most of the times seem completely useless. Here we finally get to see why she's considered a powerful mage aside from other characters just mentioning it.

UBW really set the bar for this season.

Well, there was not much female characters introduced. Answer is clear for those who saw F/Z, but first episode gave lot of hints along way anyway.

I would say Archer is the deuteragonist and Rin's more in a distant third place after this episode.

I have to say, I really liked this first episode. The music, the slow(er) pace, makes it feel like going through a well animated VN

I don't think so. Viewers may know who "her" is, but they won't know why Rin cares so much about "her". They have to wait far longer to find out the answer.

Do we happen to know if there's a realistic chance to get a higher Rin-POV focus with this conversion (yes, I know what UBW is about, played the game, yada yada)?

As someone who thinks that Saber is a snooze and doesn't identify with Emiya either, the chance that there might be a Rin focus comes as an exciting surprise. Do we know whether this is a prologue-only thing, or if they are going to keep this up?
