Striking how the militaristic elements are even more pronounced when the total material is shorter.

Not just the interest and enjoyment of tactical detail, but additional things.

The Taisha seems to be a paternalistic government at best, perhaps verging on totalitarian given that it takes young children from their parents and forces them to fight.

Not only does it impose a strong cultural indoctrination, that indoctrination seems quite uniquely nationalistic to Japan.

The specific calling out of corporal punishment as normal.

The shared admiration by the girls for historical Kamikaze pilots.

I'm very curious if this is going to be a straight up pro Japanese nationalist militarist with traditional warrior values wrapped up in ribbons, or if at some point it's going to cut over into a critique of those philosophies as we see the toll it places on our heroines?

Man... worst part of marathoning a partway done series is the transition to waiting a whole week again! Since Celestial Meathod is not yet grabbing me maybe I'll watch YuYu from the beginning all over again.

For some reason I can't quite pinpoint, the story doesn't grip me, but, man, this episode may have set new standards for cheerful with dark subtext. The sound and vision and voice acting in the show are simply brilliant, and the scene you mentioned was a very good example of that.

Yep, definitely a very strong nationalistic military theme in this show. You thought it's another mahou shoujo, but turns out to be super soldiers.

I wouldn't say that they are harshly treated by Taisha, but they aren't getting much benefits either other than some injury compensations. Makes you question the status of those people in the military who are being involuntarily scripted.

Yes, I had wondered this as well as a possibility.

If true it gets kinda...scary...more and more attuned to the "dream world" and less to the "real", perhaps?

I still am waiting for a "big reveal" showing what is "actually going on" in the series....

There's something quite tragic about a wrecked bridge... it's feat of public civil engineering - basically a modern monument to our civilization.

On pins and needles... this next episode will either send the series into memorable epicness or signal the slow slide into almost ran meh.

I'm so hyped for this next episode. We got a small part of the big reveal. I really liked how Yuki Yuna tried so hard to brighten the atmosphere.

Now we've had the long awaited Big Reveal the question is where do they go with this, and I'm hoping they find a way to beat the system and end the chain of sacrifices. Could well turn out that the Vertex are just trying to end the system, not the world.

Also thinking somewhere along these lines, the problem will be at what cost?

Also worried about Fu's & Karin's reactions. Fu is will likely feel responsible for dragging them in, while Karin might (or will) do something reckless due to her friends' hesitation and pay a steep price.

It very likely that I'll be having a bone to pick w/ the author regardless of how the last episodes play out. Fiction or not, the story is pretty cruel.
