Oooh NaiF I love Kate Beckinsale! But...I don't see her and Jolie having onscreen CHEMISTRY. BTW that asian girl is a good Natsuki look alike. Jolie can be a good Shizuru for Mai Otome, she isn't THAT old. Besides, how old is Shizuru in Otome? Mid or late 20s. Jolie is at most 30 I think.

Heh.. anyway.. I'm not a big fan of "Hollywood Movies" at all, really. I saw Godzilla the other day, and God did I laugh so hard at the Americans attempting to gun down a giant lizard while catching both troops and hundreds of Apache Longbows in the crossfire, being as much risk to themselves as to the lizard. It has quite a sad similarity to reality (Iraqi taxi drivers considering American soldiers as much a threat as suicide bombers, anyone? What with their 'shoot any vehicle that gets near us and say it was acting suspicously' policy.. but what who am I to judge? English troops have had their fair share of unpleasantness in the Iraq war), and if you are cyncial, you can't help but find it at least slightly amusing.

In production? Heh. No. Never trust a Wikipedia article. Its in a rather unique status of pre-production, what with ADV having raised half the amount required to make the film, with 3 possible directors (none of them Anno, though IMDb reports him as being attached to the project as lead-writer) competing for the place to direct, and Weta Workshops working on something else for the time being. There are many other smaller oddities with its current state, but I won't bore you with the details. Its enough to say, don't expect the film for at least another two years.

However attractive and successful an actress I think Kate Beckinsale is, I can say, with total faith, she is nothing like the right person for a role as Natsuki. I fail to see any significant similarities with the love-struck yet otherwise emotionless killer super-ultra vampire with attitude character she played most recently (and will be playing in film number 3, and the possible TV series (God forbid such a thing ever exist)) and our lovely Natsuki.

I do think, however, after a few moments thought on a Japanese actress I thought was suited for a role in this speculated Mai HiME/Mai Otome Live Action Movie, that Chiaki Kuriyama (Battle Royal, Azumi 2 and Kill Bill Vol. 1 to name but some of her significant appearances on film) would be very suited for a Mai HiME style Nao. Hell, I can picture it now.. just look at the kind of twisted role she usually plays (a la Azumi 2 and Battle Royal), very well suited for a role as Nao.
