In the US anyway, stories like that are generally referred to as shoujo ai. Where as yuri tends to refer to more explicit relationships between women.

I just find it interesting that Fukuda would make a distinction between yuri and lesbian, as the term itself here at least as far as I know doesn't allude to whether or not there's sexual content in the work, just that the work in question deals with romantic relations among women/girls.

madoka is misclassafed it is a shojo ai girls fendship type and depending despending on how tight your yuri goggles are on a light romance type.

Japan doesn't use the word shoujo ai
they use yuri as a blanket term
shoujo ai was a western invention used to differentiate worksafe and not worksafe Yuri
because some people like to argue abour yuri, are defensive, or they just love holding on to their "oh they're just really close friends" flag

shoujo ai actually means something else in Japan

Which is fairly true so far. There was pretty much no romance (Tusk and Ange was the closest one, but then she rejected him). But there was all of the (implied) sex scenes with Zola x Hilda X Chris x Rosalie, Ange x Sala

This I know, which is why I mentioned how it's used in the US. I just find it interesting that he seems to essentially be using yuri the way we'd used shoujo ai in the US and lesbian the way we'd used yuri in the US. My initial question was just me wondering if there is an actual distinction made amongst the Japanese between yuri and lesbian series, but your latter statement seems to answer my question.

Speaking of withholding info, I wonder how they managed to keep the DRAGON's secret from Salia's squad for so long. In fact, it took a long time until somebody finally asked about the DRAGONs.

I'm guessing the reason why Jill didn't explain things until later was because she needed Ange to get stronger and be more receptive to the plan, however, Ange could've died quite easily during her first deployment and then no Villkiss. Also, they had to be careful around Emma, but for some reason, Emma doesn't know much about the Villkiss, if anything at all. She's really inept lol.

Another question: why is Jill still alive after she and her comrades were caught trying to rebel? I think either Embryo kept her alive to be a prick, or she's of use to him alive.
