I watched the first 2 episodes of Dog Days S1 years ago
Then watched the first episode of Dog Days S3. So what's the draw? The attacks don't seem that flashy, and the games from S1 I saw is just two mobs running into eachother. Does it get more energized? Is it just the animal ears and tail?

Yay, the gang's all back again....sort of. Well this first episode was not that surprising as they have to spice it up this season to make it different from the seasons before this one.
I got all giddy when Shinku and Nanami saved that damsel in distress with style.

In general: it's well written, the characters are a blast, no one is an idiot and world is just fun. S2 has a less linear story (it's a "what happened for 2 weeks over vacation!" story, technically), but it's lots of fun for the sake of it. Just exploring the world. It's also a very re-watchable series. Another appeal. |

I had to get a new video player to watch my old seasons of Dog Days. Media Player Classic wasn't displaying them properly. At best guess, after digging around through online posts and whatnot, my new video card's drivers are doing something weird to H264 videos, which interacts oddly with either MPC or CCCP's way of playing them (I am not an expert on this stuff). The suggested fixes told me to do something that isn't even an option in the current version of MPC, so after poking at it a while I gave up and got VLC player, which seems to work fine.
This post sponsored by me being slightly annoyed. Putting that aside, the old episodes are still fun, and I see no reason why the new season won't be able to continue in the same vein.

The series has a large ensemble cast whose characters can suit a lot of different tastes, and who each have managed to get enough screentime to make them enjoyable. One of the things that adds to its appeal.
Of course, it can sometimes become difficult to keep track of everyone. EDIT: BTW, was that a Nana Mizuki opening theme? It sure sounded like her, and the song bore a resemblence to some music from Nanoha in some ways.

Rewatching again, I felt that Princess Millhiore didn't sound like Yui Horie at the start. And guys, admit it, Yukikaze's poms poms are the reasons you are watching it. |
