Also, considering these people don't think in terms of our contemporary way of thinking, so the idea of slavery being a bad thing is not very widespread yet. However, we'll have to see next week whether Lusitania actually keeps their word or not.

I highly doubt the Lusitanians are ones to keep their words. It is an obvious tactic for victory and nothing more. I sense these poor slaves are doomed no matter what they choose.

The original Persian story that the Japanese novel series is (very) loosely based off of involves the fall of Constantinople to Western invaders (which is kind of odd since historically it was exclusively ruled by Westerners until the Turks conquered it in the 15th century).

Byzantine Empire were not really westerners. They are the successors, or more correctly the Eastern half of the lineage of the original Roman Empire/Republic. The reasons why it's labelled the Byzantine Empire instead of the East Roman Empire is to portray the differences in culture compared to the Western Roman Empire:
1. It's base of power was based in Constantinople not Rome. 2. It's people consisted of Greek-Romans rather than Latin Romans. 3. It followed Orthodox Christianity as the state religion rather than Roman Paganism. 4. Byzantium culture had integrated a lot of Eastern (Middle Eastern) culture in particular their military tactics and unit type. One of the most famous examples is the cataphract, originally a Persian heavy cavalry unit, the Byzantine adopted it as a major part of their military whilst West Romans still largely relied on a heavy infantry core with auxilary skirmishers. As for being "ruled by Westerners" though, it was actually briefly ruled by the Latin Empire after the sacking of Constantinople in the 13th century by the Fourth Crusade. Turning point in Byzantine history, whereby although they did kick the Latin Empire out within 100-150 years they would got demolished by the Ottomans as could never recover from the blow. |

ep 05
Damn, lots of respect to Shapur for that. Unfortunately if end of this episode is any indication it's gonna be a in vain in the end.
Not that I can blame the slaves, much of that is result of the poor policies of government more than anything. On another note I like that Queen showed that she seems quite capable of handling the affairs of state in the absence of her husband if her actions with Gieve (who looks to be a fun character if not a tad cliche but whatever) is anything to go by. She is fair and firm ruler at least. Lastly, Narsus' aid is already showing its' weight in gold if just not for this point of view alone: Quote:

Episode 6:
So...this episode establishes the downfall of Ecbatana. Really though, this shouldn't of been a surprise with all the shit that went down with the recent events in the series. I like how the series shows the reality of the war and even rebellion. Silvermask's presence in this episode was also quite something especially with his ruthlessness. Glad to see Arslan and the others making moves though including a mysterious hooded woman near the end there.. Can't wait to see her role in this adaptation.

Anyway, glad to see the positive reactions. It's been a pretty good adaptation so far. Maybe I'll address more details if it's needed after I see others' opinions for the last two episodes.

Good episode! Unlike other series of similar genre, Arslan Senki really keeps the reality and harshness of war and cruelty of men. I'm really liking this series, and all the characters so far are really interesting and likeable.
I'm surprised that the Queen would be anxious about her husband but not her son. I'm really wondering why she hates Arslan so much, even more than the King? Too bad that Calvary Captain got killed because he would have been a good addition to Arslan's future government. His way of thinking and strategic planning is similar to Narsus. Really liking Geive, his character is interesting and I'm looking forward to learning of his opinion of Arslan when they meet later.

Wow, this episode was hard, for real. Finally Pars is doomed by their own mistakes, everyone is running away from all that madness even the queen.
Seems like she doesn't like Arslan at all, something like he's not her son. Next episode a new beauty incoming, and holy shit she's damn hot. |
