Well this chapter is cheerful and at the same time ominous.

Spoiler for 31.5:

Now everyone knows Kaneki is alive and we have no idea what happened to Hinami (prison cell possibly).

Well with the book signed to Kaneki, Sasaki knows how to spell his name again.

I guess this is the author's way of disturbing us, give us a cheerful yet ominous chapter, then have everything start falling apart.

Really cute chapter, with lots of plot hints.

The CCG is going to be making more Quinx. I wasn't quite sure from the spoilers if these new Quinx were going to be made from new graduates (I really hope not, I don't think the story needs more characters), or if they were going to test existing investigators. I think it would be evilly ironic if Takeomi became a Quinx. He would, of course, be better at being a Quinx than Urie.

I really hope the book was from Hide, and that this means Hide is alive.

There are only three possible origins for the book:
1) The book that Kaneki had signed when with Hinami.
2) The book Hide had signed for Kaneki.
3) A new book that Eto signed for Kaneki to mess with his head.

I want Hide to be alive, but after thinking about it, there are alot of people that could have access to 1) and 2).

1) Could be sent by Eto, Banjou, or even Ayato (if Ayato has really matured, and realizes that Kaneki, with his memories, is Himami's best protection right now).

2) Hopefully this book would be sent by an alive Hide, but Hide is also the sort of person who could amazingly make sure it is sent posthumously. I think that Arima or Yoshitoki might be the sender.

3) Eto sent it, of course.

In the first manga, someone talks about when the one-eyed owl first appears. They say that rumors said that the one-eyed owl was a boy, was a girl, or was even an old man.

I've always thought that since the old man was Yoshimura, and the girl was Eto, that maybe the boy was also another person. Maybe Arima, is a one-eyed ghoul too, and he joined the CCG for reasons......

1. They say Arima was once bitten by a ghoul but after 5 minutes of excruciating pain................the ghoul died

2. Ghouls actually line up to be turned into Arima's quinque.

3. Whenever Arima goes to the bathroom a ghoul on the other side of the world dies.

4. Arima is neither human nor ghoul, he's just Arima



Seriously though, I wonder what explanation we'll get for Arima's skills (if we get one at all).

I had assumed that for this crazy theory to work the CCG higher ups know that Arima is a one-eye. So Arima wouldn't really be hiding his ghoul nature, except from his subordinates.

If the CCG knew that Arima was a half ghoul, then that could have inspired the half ghoul experiments that Kanou worked on at the CCG before he left to become a self-employed mad scientist. Also the CCG's certainty that Haise can equal or exceed Arima might be because, the CCG feels they have given him a subordinate that can match his baseline physical abilities.

Of course, Arima may just represent the certainty and inexplicableness of death. So we never find out why he is so powerful and mysterious.

I can't believe Arima went to a christmas party, and much less than he seemed to actually have fun. Who would have ever thought we'd see him play video games with Saiko? He seemed like a completely normal guy in this chapter. Maybe I had the wrong impression of him.

Chapter fun with good interactions, it is good to know that Haise has a place in the CCG, will be sad when he has to choose between them or Anteiku, and by then I bet Ishida will continue to deepen the relationship between him and the CCG.

He actually did give his name, but not his full name. So basically the possibility it was his own signed book is out of the question.

That only leaves the possibility that it's Hide's (who actually did give his full name) or Eto herself to screw with Sasaneki's mind. The possibility weighs more at Hide's since it was accompanied by "Happy Birthday", though.

Doesn't mean that it's Hide who send it to him, though. I do hope it's Hide, really, but my instinct tell me not to believe the bait this soon.

In any case, love the chapter now that I have time to read it, Arima is so hilarious that I don't know whether he is a badass or just an air-head at this point wwwww

I really like the scene when Sasaneki gave the presents to the Qs and Arima+Akira, though I'll have to say the :re scene is heartwarming for me even if I don't trust Uta at all even now Touka's is still the same Touka I know after all when she called Nishiki, Shit-Nishiki lol. Never change, Touka, never change.

(Also that happy birthday, ouch. Way to sting the feels since the person in question doesn't even know it's his real birthday. D: At least no torture for X'mas-B'day party like in v7 I guess?)
