So the Meet the Ranger vid was just released, and while short provides us with some details on the Ranger's abilities:

- Can choose between direct combat abilities or concealment.
- Class Ability: Reaper - can initiate another attack after a melee kill. Can be chained infinitely.
- Class Ability: Phantom - can move after a kill.
- Mentions the ability to "climb".

As Reaper and Phantom seem to be located at different levels (with Phantom being a high-level ability), combining both seems to be a recipe for melee awesomeness.

10min gameplay from the E3 demo footage, now without commentary, where we can hear the soundtrack in full glory.

Hot damn, that soundtrack is amazing. XCOM's was already pretty great, but this is some next level stuff.

And wow, if that's all really stuff that will happen in-game, they've really stepped up on the event scripting in the game.

Seconded. I do hope we see a release combining both games' music.

Also: if the nature of the blood sprays is any indicator, it seems that the ADVENT soldiers seen in this footage aren't entirely human... or might not be human at all. Note too their chatter.

Well, EXALT soldiers in Enemy Within had indistinct chatter as well, likely representing comm encryption. But yeah, their yellow blood likely points to ADVENT soldiers being heavily genetically modified at least, or part alien.

Also, some info clarifying the above demo video from a Firaxis livestream about yesterday:

If you’re hiding in cover (i.e. not flanked) when the spotting tile moves to cover you, your operative will not be spotted.
• Wanted posters will change to reflect your own operatives, including your own customization.
Overwatch IS sequential. Can’t choose who your operatives target but they won’t all unload at the same time.
• Dynamic lighting.
• It seems the Viper tongue grab does work at that distance but, as noted before, can’t bind, move and tongue you.
• You can now destroy cars which have been blown up – You can take of the front and the burnt out car will be smaller. Also a mention of something called ‘magnetic weapons’. So probably upgraded tech.
• Every operative can hack but not everyone can hack turrets. Left to the Specialist/Gremlin.
• Berserker’s roar is made up of 5 employees yelling, a tornado, a flamethrower, a bass drop, an elephant, a tiger roar and something else I missed.
• XCOM never reached MECs in XCOM 1.
The guy picking up the wounded soldier does have demo magic 3 action turns. Can’t dash after you move to pick up.
• Can’t shoot while carrying an operative.

• Evacuation doesn’t happen on every map. Only if you choose to or is part of an object.
• Max squad size is still 6.
• No EXALT in XCOM 2 apparently.
• Yes to base building. More info strategy layer coming soon.
• No denial or conformation of Vahlen/Shen.
• You can’t marry the snek.
On the one hand, sequential overwatch means no more simultaneous mass barrages on a poor single alien that pops up, on the other hand it now ensures that everyone takes a shot at different enemies instead of unloading their entire reaction fire turn on a single overwatch breaker.

Also, have our new, older Bradford:

I saw an interview with one of the devs, and he said its a world where X-COM failed during Enemy unknown... And its now 20 years later. The broken pieces of X-COM are trying to rebuild and mount a resistance. Really hope Bradly will be back O_o

I kinda have mixed feelings, but will see where it goes closer to release. Hopefully its a better campaign mode.

btw, I cant really see in the vanilla game how X-com lost... But in Long War mod, I definitely can see why O_O

Classic/Impossible Iron-Man was the canon, according to them.

I seriously doubt anyone could get past month two on that mode in your first try, unless you cheated with the guide to the twin sat opening.

Consider the fact that according to Steam, only 28.7% of all players every finished XCOM on ANY difficulty, and that only 1.7% ever completed the game on Classic or Impossible difficulty (Classic is what the devs consider to be the "true" difficulty for XCOM), and you can see that the majority of players never even beat the game.

There's also the fact that for most players, defeat is usually their very first experience with the game, and later on at higher difficulties victory is usually hard won, with the majority of games being losses.

Taking into account that defeat is the majority state of all players in XCOM at one point or another, and it actually makes a certain amount of sense to make it pick off the majority ending, aka the ending where you lost.

So EXALT is not in XCOM 2?

That's a bummer. The faction could have serve as a temporary ally for XCOM to a common enemy.

EXALT was 'allied' to the aliens in X-Com. This is basically a world they envisioned, why would they attack the aliens?

EXALT wants to rule the world using alien technology and they were never "allies" with the Advent. And since the Advent wants to turn humans into another slave race....

Way I remembered it, EXALT was described as "sympathizers" of the Aliens. And yes, that's why I said allies in a quote mark. The Aliens are basically using them for their own purpose. I'd say those brown blood soldiers in the trailer are what became of EXALT in this world.

I like the premise, atleast they didn't go Terror From the Deep on the sequel. Looking forward to the strategic layer of the game, being the renegade group should open interesting mechanic to play around with and hopefully there's more ways to be proactive with your missions rather than just waiting for UFO/abduction to pop up.

EXALT only really "sympathizes" with the aliens as far as wanting them to run amok and cause havoc to the world's governments, and of course letting the aliens run their course on human experimentation and such. However, if their goals clash EXALT will resist the aliens - see Operation Progeny, where EXALT fought against aliens to keep Annette Durand from falling into their hands.

Also, the devs have repeatedly clarified that ADVENT has no relation to EXALT whatsoever.

Been neglecting to provide info on this page, so here's one:

Dang, even if they are a bit more brittle than before...that's pretty insane. Frankly if I see Chryssalid's start to multiply and I can't get to those cocoons....instant running away! That's one zombie apocalypse that I won't be able to get ahead of.
