The thing that is throwing me off is that the third work sounds like it takes the strongest characters of the other worlds and throws them into some god tier world, but so far what I have seen in the manhua including the main character, the people in that world don't strike me as particularly strong.

Before answering that you should know by now that only one essence flame can exist inside a human no more than that however for Xiao Yan he learnt the "Terminal Blaze" (a little odd since in the novel the wording I would have used is "Immolation Blaze") an extremely rare technique which allows one to advance their level using "Essence flames" as the basis however before Xiao Yan this was only a theory Yao Lao came up which never actually been tested until Xiao Yan. The fusing of essence flames allows for a whole new possibility in power and rank plus if you have read the manhua you have seen a demonstrations of the capabilities it has i.e. "Buddha's Fury"etc.

Receptarior's are the ones that gave essence flame rankings and there are 23 known essence flames they are:

Hmm I can't recall exactly in the novel but I am sure it was said before that to absorb one of the top 10 essence flames the minimum requirements was Dou Huang (7th ranked or above) although the top 3 ranked had a higher set of requirements.

Its later on Xiao Yan learns the truth about the essence flames i.e the true origins about them. Even I was surprised by the truth about them.

No, that could never happen Pai Dong is still in love with his prior love or rather it can only ever be her for him.

It was always going to be Xiao Yan for Medusa from what I have read the author went into detail with the relationship between them. Out of all the heroines (this is includes Xun Er) Medusa is the one where the author goes more in depth with. Although if were talking who Xian Yan had best chemistry it would definitely go to the "Medical Fairy" Xiao Yi Xian.

About the different works which leads Xiao Yan (BTTH) and Lin Dong (WDQK) coming to a whole new world with Mu Chen (DZZ). To summarize both Xian Yan and Lin Dong who were at the peak in their world are now in a different realm where they meet Mu Chen it is here that the two realize that reaching their peaks in their world doesn't mean the same in this alternate one where they both learn they can transcend to a higher level. While it is true that DZZ brings them altogether before that as you can in the manhua it focuses on the protagonist Mu Chen first as he raises amongst ranks before meeting the two legends.

The author would never match Medusa with Pai Dong if for no other reason that Medusa is much, much stronger than Pai Dong (husbands have to be stronger than wives in the snake clans) and Pai Dong is extremely afraid of her. While Medusa does have a sizable lead on Xiao Yan, he nearly closes the gap just before their first separation. After their reunion, Xiao Yan returns much stronger than Medusa.

Also as mentioned, the relationship between Medusa and Xiao Yan is the most developed of all the female characters except for maybe The Medical Fairy. There's a very clear trajectory in their relationship that constantly changes over the course of 500 chapters. I thought the author did an excellent job of fleshing out the relationship.

The little snake went over to someone else. Take a guess.

Spoiler for Setting of the 3rd novel:

The 3rd novel takes place in the Great Thousand Upper World. BTTH and WDQK both took place in Lower Worlds. The idea is that thousands of lower worlds theoretically connect to the Upper World. Those that "break through" the boundaries of their Lower World can create a connection with the Upper World for ascension. With that being said, it's quite rare for people to "break through". Typically, an connection between the Upper World and Lower World is created from the Upper World's side. Xiao Yan and Lin Dong went the hard way and created the connection from their side.

The reason why the characters in DZZ now don't seem particularly strong is because they ARE weak. Just because the setting is in a Upper World it doesn't mean that the strongest characters in the Lower Worlds are suddenly mediocre characters in the Upper World. It just simply means that the ceiling of the character's martial development has been raised because of greater resources available. Rookie fighters still have to train from level 1 like they would in any Lower World. The starting floor is the same. As a matter of fact, when both Xiao Yan and Lin Dong went into the Upper World, they were already elite fighters based on the skills they brought over from the Lower World. They weren't the strongest, but within 10 years, both of them reached the pinnacle of the Upper World. It's implied that both of them are currently among the 4 or 5 top fighters (Hundred War Emperor, Undead Lord, Inferno Emperor, Sword Saint, Martial Ancestor) in all of the Upper World.

The King rank is able to create Wings from external sources of energy.
The Emperor rank is able to create Wings from internal sources of energy.
The Ancestor rank's most defining characteristic is flotation meaning that their feet is naturally off the ground without any wings. Also this is the rank when the fighter is able to start controlling space. In the higher ranks, an ancestor is able to lock up a small area of space.
The Honored rank's most defining characteristic is command of space. They can even create portals that allow fast travel.
The Saint's rank is able to destroy earth, collapse space, and even create an isolated living realm. In short, a Saint has absolute mastery over space.
At God's rank, blood transformation occurs.

The author technically has 4 novels, but his first novel is considered more of a tryout. Battle Through the Heaven (his second work) is his defining and breakout work. The third work is called Wu Dong Qian Kun. You can find it on baka searching the exact wording though I absolute hate the image they used for it because there are much, much better ones. YellowLaw Translations is up to about chapter 58 for the novel while Read Manga Today just started translating the manhua recently. Unfortunately, the manhua is a monthly release, so it's going to take a LONG time. There are only about 30 or so raw chapters for the manhua.

The current novel in progress is Da Zhu Zai, which has been translated as The Great Ruler though I would have preferred the The Great Overlord. At the same time, there can be some confusion with the japanese MMO light novel so I can understand why they used The Great Ruler. Like WDQK, both of the manhua and novel translations just recently started. Read Manga Today is translating the manhua while Solitary Translations is up to chapter 54 for the novel. Also like WDQK, the raw of the manhua is going to take a while since it's a monthly release. There are currently about 26 or so raw chapters for the manhua.

Don't get me wrong I like Medusa, she is probably my favorite, either her or the white haired Yun La Sect girl. Is just that typical of say maybe Japanese or Western works for a joke they would pair together a pairing that hate each ie the cat and mouse.

One other question, do the manhua, at least in the case of BTTH cover all of the original novel? If not I can switch to the novel version.

Ohh, ok thanks for clarifying that, I did find it weird when they said he reach saint rank, he was suppose to be god rank so I was kinda confuse there, but now this clear it up, it's only a mistranslation.

Yes and no.

It does a fairly good job of covering the important events that happened in the novel, but there are a number of minor differences, most obvious being how the manga tends to add or change small events for more comedy, although there are others...

That said, the manga is nowhere near complete (I might call it a third of the way, being generous at that).

This is if you're reading the raws though. The translated stuff... I'm not too sure which is further ahead...

Correct. The Top 3 Essence Flames are unique in the sense that the flames have high intelligence and developed human-like consciousness. This means that in the course of a combat situation, the flame can act independently from the master and create a 2 vs 1 situation. Furthermore, these Flames are not just any regular ancestor or honored rank, they're legit mid to high level Saint class fighters.

The reason why it's so difficult to get is because you have to essentially subdue an intelligent mid-class Saint level fighter. The various ancient clans have tried NUMEROUS times and failed to subdue the flame.

There might be an off chance Xun Er gets it, but if the strongest character in the series doesn't get it, Xiao Yan, I feel like no one probably got it.

How does it work in the Chinese scene. Is the author of the novel the same as the author of the manga, or are they two separate people?

This is a really rather end of story spoiler, but...

Spoiler:

The First Flame is literally the combined form of all the essence flames. The story is that it was a flame that consumed all the other essence flames one by one until finally, it ate all of them and became the 1st ranked essence flame. Said 1st flame is also the most recent Dou God in history (that was still a long ass time ago though). No one has the 1st ranked essence flame. He passed from existence ages ago.

That said, if by some chance someone manages to gather up and combine all the essence flames, they could theoretically recreate the Emperor Flame again.

Spoiler for In the final battle:

when Xiao Yian made God rank and was fighting against the final villain, who also reached God rank, Xiao Yian's finally technique was a summoning of all essence flames in existence, combining them to make his winning attack. I don't think it every spelled out that the Emperor Flame got recreated then, but given the backstory we were provided...
