Only because people have grown to see cartoons (or rather, animation in general) as kid's stuff. That's not so say it isn't true in most cases, but people forget that a lot of adults watch along with their kids at the same time, and thus some animators (especially those in the 1990's) ensure that their creation is enjoyable for both children and adults alike.

But yeah, if you're already abnormal for watching cartoons in the first place, having the hots for some (presumably well-drawn) animated female (or male, if that's your fancy) can't do that much more harm. Besides, you can't stop yourself from doing it anyway. At the most, you'll grow out of some of those crushes (and discover new ones in their place).

And let's be honest, a lot of these girls are specifically made to look attractive. It's probably even their main selling point.

Having watched so much anime, I'm pretty much desensitized to fanservice. Like if it's straight up trying to sell it as something sexy, I get so turned off so badly. That's why I can't stomach stuff like DxD, Shinmai Testament, or this cour's Rakudai. If I wanted to watch porn, I will rather watch porn.

I mean, there are exceptions, for example the Prison School scenes with Hana and MC has me needing a cold shower every time. I think that may be me thinking HanaKana is #1 seiyuu bar none and she rarely does heavy ecchi anime, so that was strangely arousing. (I'd pay good money for her to voice a main heroine in an eroge lol) But apart from that, I just go mainly ehhh.

Of course, I like fanservice that is less trying to sell sex and is more cute, like Punchline. I dunno, something about panchira in anime is strangely entertaining for me, but seeing real upskirt photos doesn't raise an eyebrow for me at all. Maybe I like more the reaction of the one being panchira'd more than the actual show of panties? I dunno, I really haven't thoroughly examined or given much thought WHY I'm that way.
