Wow...this volume...really wow. I'm at a lost of word at how much of a shoot the shaggy dog story this one volume is, it's kind of depressing, so I'll jump to the conclusion. From this point forward Kyousuke is no longer the strongest summoner, he had lost the ability to summon any unexplored class summons besides the WQ.

So what exactly is this series all about?
If this is only about Kyousuke suffering for every single volume, then what's even the point of it?

Is this some twisted way for Kamachi to divert his sadistic tendencies which he first unleashed in A Simple Series? Come to think of it, setting aside NT9, Kamachi has been less violent in Index.

Half and half, Kamachi does indeed use this one as his personal sadistic punching bag (not that his other MCs would suffer any less because of it), but it is also as a way to show his idea of an "orthodox" work, kind of like a commentary on modern LN, where the MC gets everything handed to them, Kyousuke for every gain he get, gets tortured to the same extent to even it up, unlike many other LNs where power seems like it is free. And even though his torture is terrible, he does gain things from it (ie experience and pain). He saves people every time, so as a result, all that misfortune has to go somewhere, therefore he must get the piss beaten out of him every time.

Personally this also used to show a reason why Kamachi NEVER gave his MCs any power-up and any fancy tricks is a one-time use, all things gained in Kamachi's works need to be gained by sweat and blood, and if you gain it before you pay the sweat and blood, then you just have to pay the interest in addition then.

Kyousuke gets a little-sister character, an elder sister character, fame and POWAH, from the beginning, for that reason he must be tortured to the same extent to warrant having these, right is earned, one does not get to be the MC just because.

Also, Kamachi loves David vs Goliath, and if the David doesn't end up as a desperate blood-soaked rag, then it isn't really David vs Goliath.

this is why i've fallen in love with Kamachi's work recently. he's one of the few authors that actually gets how to make the MC's work for it.
