I'm with Yamada II. After Episode 2, I'm still loving the show. Hotaru is loads of fun, highly amusing character. I continue to love how she mixes chuuni-style ham/"cool" style with a genuinely bubbly and friendly genki girl heart. The clever Gundam references also really tickled my funny bone.
Now, I get the criticisms. A pure comedy show relying very heavily on two characters alone - That's an awful lot to ask of those two characters. But honestly, I think that Hotaru and Coconuts are doing a pretty good job of it so far. Is this sort of content better-suited for a short? Probably, yeah, but then in my experience, shorts rarely get the level of exposure and fandom discussion that your more conventional 20-something-minute show does. So I'm fine with Dagashi Kashi being the way it is, as it's probably better off overall being the way it is.

Will certainly admit that some of the puns didn't quite hit me. But it is a pretty specific topic that they are working with here. Plus comedy is pretty hit or miss depending on the individual. The only thing I'd say is that it somewhat felt like the whistle candy skit went on for a bit too long. Even if it was in order to try to teach Coconuts a lesson .
But overall it was fairly funny. Saya being a genius competitor at the end there was awesome. Just pure talent . So far so good. Hotaru is pretty nuts, but entertaining. Coconuts does a good job as the straight man in this combo. All in all pretty solid.

Lol Saya just shooting herself in the foot there. The only way Coconuts is going to stay as the next owner of the Dagashi store is if Hotaru becomes his wife to help run it. Well at least for supposed rivals-in-love they're pretty darn friendly. Them not knowing it yet just makes it even more amusing.
Can't complain about the anime. I was bored the heck out of the manga since Saya doesn't appear very often, but it's pretty darn obvious they're giving her a big share of the screentime in the anime (half of each episode she appears so far). Like sure, she still isn't as prominent as Hotaru, but as a Saya fan, it's a big improvement over the manga.

I know we're not the target audience for this but I'm starting to get bored. I still find hotaru cute though so I'll give it another episode or two before deciding whether to pick this up or not.
The second part though took me back to my childhood when we were playing what we call teks I'm sure that I still have 500 or so of those cards around here somewhere, I counted all of them back in 2000 or 2001 before I entered high school We played it differently though, they way they played it in this episode was too hard, we just flicked the cards and the owner of the card that lands upside down is the loser. I'd be very surprised if kids are still playing with those cards in japan in this day and age

I just hope the show would never end.. it is entertaining
for the first candy problem, I think only Hotaru would faced that "the crumbs are falling on my chest" stuff... It won't happened at least for... uhm... Saya.. uhm.. Saya-shi is awesome though I'm pretty lame at that game and that moment when she asked Kokonotsu to take over the shop nice move! I don't think Hotaru would stay as his wife to handle the shop.. rather than that, it would keep Kokonotsu in the town so he and Saya would stay together forever I enjoy the comedy especially at that whistling arc... Senpai~~ it's so disgusting but also amusing |

Being a Gundam-fan that I am, I was actually laughing at the Gundam reference in the beginning where they copy the exact scenes from MS Gundam but replacing all the mechas and Amuro in the desert with snacks and was peaked by the “stick-colony drop”-scene . And strangely enough, I can connect with the whistle-candy snack joke cause we have them back when I was a kid. First, I went “WTH?” during the whistle-candy-“arc” but after realizing that it was Hotaru’s version of Coconuts & his dad, I was chuckling some more. And then the card game makes me smile coz I did play those similar games with my friends waaaaay back then. Ah, the nostalgia. And Saya being the prodigy of it (beating a certain someone who has trained for two years) makes it even more hilarious. All in all, the gags in this episode are good for me.

After seeing this episode, I've officially added this show as a permanent resident on my watch list for 2016!! That last scene was tugging at my childhood! I remember playing pogs! Although our version wasn't with thick cards like what they had. It was round and they were sometimes called "milk caps". And we had to stack them up. The harder you hit, the more you flip over. Although sometimes strength doesn't always guarantee you a win. Oh man Dagashi Kashi, you just won me over!

Also, Saya only wants him to be the next owner so that he is still close by, which is really a flimsy reason to convince MC to become one. He can still be close by without being the next owner, or heck, if Saya really likes him, she can just follow him to Tokyo or something when he studies to become a mangaka. XD Hotaru, his dream girl from even before he met her, on the other hand can easily say "I'll only go out with you if you become the next owner" and this anime is done and over with. Not to say she will be 'prostituting' herself just to get Tou-san to work for her company; she clearly already respects MC from the first episode so that turning to love wouldn't be a stretch. (dammit what am I saying, I'm supposed to be team Saya here )
