something like Grimgar or rokka are beautifully paced but sadly they dont get to the meat of the story. which leads ppl to buy the source or read them and thats good and all but not everyone got the luxury to read LNs. so for me get 3 or 4 vols and ill be satisfied even if u cut me off with no second season. |

It's always difficult to pin down the pacing of a show until after the first story arc is broadcast.
Nobody expected Heavy Object to cover only three volumes in a span of two cours, while Anti-Magic was blitzed through.

For these kind of series 3 vols in 12 episodes is the best option, 4 vols is already rushed but in Antimagic's case was just a non-stop butchering.
As for Hundred, well the LN itself isn't a special snowflake or anything over the average harem battle but is fun enough to keep anyone interested, the girls are nice and the MC isn't annoying but not "alpha" (at least he's not too dense or stupid, he know what is going on). |

I agree that pacing and potential flaws are easier to see and harder to ignore if you know the source material. But there are extremes like Antimagic Academy where they go so insane in one direction that you can't avoid it. So fast that the story has no room to breath is just a waste of an anime. Pacing is an interesting thing. I'm fine with the usual standard. 3-4 episodes per arc/volume. I can enjoy the longer ones (6+ episodes per), but it depends. I never can stand the super rush jobs though. For this series I do think the usual is fine. 3 or 4 volumes allows for introducing a lot of characters, telling some good stories, but not going too far.

And unfortunately being faithful doesn't reward you with sales either as Rokka no Yuusha can attest. So you have much less incentive for the members involved in anime production in general go above and beyond for any adaptations unless there is huge reader fanbase for the original work to guarantee good returns. |

Being faithful or not guarantees nothing. A large fanbase guarantees nothing. People aren't going to buy up the BDs for a butchered adaptation no matter how much they like the source material. A faithful adaptation can be rewarded as much as anything. It depends on the content. In the end you don't have to go above and beyond, you just have to do a competent job which most definitely was nowhere to be found with AMA. Quote:
