It's weird, I never think of Noir when watching Black Lagoon ... I always think of Cowboy Bebop. Revy plays Spike's role (only angrier ) and Rock plays Faye's. Oh, and they're pirates instead of bounty hunters.

In a season of well animated shows, it's Black Lagoon that most frequently makes my jaw drop when watching an episode. Gorgeous and well done all the way around.

That's what I think too. Revy and Spike can both go to town on people, but they act like their jobs are incredibly boring and annoying to them. Sort of like NFL's Ricky Williams...he's an awesome player but would rather just sit around and smoke reefer all day.

Also, is that a cosplay magazine or a firearms magazine?

I thought the same exact thing. Spike = Revy, Jet= Dutch, Ed= That geek. Ein = Rock. Although I believe Spike > Revy. I can't wait to see what happens in episode 9. "Maid to Kill."

Just watched episode 9 (my jap is horrible so raws just makes my head dizzy) but holy crap.... the maid is AWESOME!!

he maid outfit, the cross, the big round glasses, the umbrella and the suitcase = Mary Poppins with guns?

cant wait for epi 10 to see the Ter-mei-do in action

It's a pity there's only 13 episode, hopefully a 2nd season wont be long in coming.

I personally think Spike > Revy right now because Spike keeps his cool despite everything. I don't want a Spike to happen to Revy. NO. That will make me angry.

You need real businesses to act as the front. Combine that with the fact that porn is really profitable if you're any good at it...

It's unlikely to be copyrighted material, as otherwise there would have been no need to edit the footage.

Unless children are involved, or people are being forcibly raped/killed on screen, there isn't likely to be anything illegal about the porn Balalaika is editing. What we saw didn't have violence or children, so you can't really call it illegal.

You know, blackmail and all... That's pretty illegal and might need some heavy editing (i.e. hiding the actress/actor's face). And some countries (like China) completly prohibit any kind of porn.

That's verrrrry funny. In countries with high regular crime rate (murder, robbery) - like that place in Black Lagoon - nobody seriously considers "copyright violation" a crime. So it's too little for Hotel Moscow head to waste her time on it.

Why do they need blackmail?
People are quite happy to be filmed having sex for money, if the pay is good. This is merely a side business for Balalaika, so there is no reason for her to be "evil" for the fun of it.
The gang bosses who run the Slave trade are more likely to obtain their porn via unsavory means, but so far there is no sign to suggest Balalaika is interested in people-trafficking.

Guns and drugs could be stored. Children are much more difficult a commodity to transport and keep alive. Consider the relative small size of Hotel Moscow, it's probably easier to stick to guns and drugs for them.

And prohibiting porn? Don't make me laugh, the Chinese government officials and politicians are likely to have extensive collections of their own. If no porn is legal, then there is no such thing as illegal porn.

In USSR all porn was illegal - and yes, bribed governmentals did had such collections. That never stopped people from being sentenced to several years in Sybiria.
