Eh.....
Yukina's personality is hard for me to get used to in this series. Ouma's chemistry with her is somewhat hilarious but I'm not feeling a strong connection yet. Plus, I find her rather useless so far. Her sister, Koharu seems kinda cute though. In the meantime, we still don't know much about Ouma at all except for his lack of common sense in the real world. Meh, I hope the story improves but still underwhelmed by what I see so far up to this point.

Very fun and solid and smooth Episode 3. All of the show's different elements (and some are very different from each other) are now coming together beautifully well, almost seamlessly.
The characters are all fun and/or likeable, and they keep getting more fun/likeable with each passing episode. The show never misses a good opportunity to explore Ouma's culture/tech shock, but it doesn't force it either. It feels very organic and "just right". It makes sense that Ouma would be wowed by modern buildings (Episode 2), and his response to seeing cell-phones in use (Episode 3) was very realistic and humorous. The action scenes have been consistently good, and the plot has been pretty believable so far (as long as you roll with its sci-fi elements, of course). I'm glad that the monk reached out to Ouma the way he did, and has brought Ouma into his home. Mostly because it made for a great after-ED scene, including a truly adorable Koharu moment. But also because Ouma as complete prisoner was starting to feel played out, so I'm glad the narrative is moving beyond that. Yukina continues to be a fun, satisfying, and well-balanced female lead. Good to see Sophie get to do something in Episode 3, but I hope we see much more of her in future episodes. On the whole, great episode 3 and I'm loving this show. The two mecha shows of Spring 2016 (this and Macross Delta) are definitely my two favorite Spring 2016 shows so far. Quote:
I get the impression that Yukina and Ouma are basically going to be co-leads, with primary perspective shifting back and forth between the two of them.

I really liked this episode. I felt really sorry for all the shock that Kenn had to go through. To be in one era at one point and then to suddenly to wake up centuries later.
Rather than make fun of him and imprison him, he should really be held as the find of the century. Do you have any idea how many people would want to talk to and study him? Also, he holds all the answers to what these aliens are, how they act, and how to fight them. I think that a major debriefing on both sides is necessary. I'm really wondering what kind of aliens these are and what they want. Also, I would think that the world would treat an alien invasion with a little more seriousness.

Thing is he doesn't view them as aliens but as demons according to his era's superstitions. The bigger question how did he get to pilot that mech in the first place? |

However, I do find most of the modern human characters in this show to be awfully ungrateful so far. Ouma was tremendously helpful against some of these "demons", and yet most of the modern human characters in this show have shown absolutely no thanks or appreciation for that at all. So yes, the modern human characters in this show should be reaching out to Ouma for help in fighting the demons. The fact he calls them demons is largely beside the point - He has experience fighting and defeating these enemies. He likely has memories of what they did the last time they troubled Earth, and some hints to their broader intentions might arise from him retelling his experiences with these enemies. Quote:

But I guess a conventional alien invasion story just isn't where this show wants to go.

In addition, someone translated some comments by Kennosuke's voice actor, Azakami Youhei, from anime magazine G's. http://gs.dengeki.com/news/65145/). >ご自身の演じられるキャラクターに関しての印象などはいかがでしたか? 1.) What was your opinion in regards to the character you played? Kennosuke is quite violent, seems like he’s always angry, and at any rate, an awkward guy. Playing as Kennosuke who doesn’t know how to act around his surroundings is enjoyable, and sometimes it seems like I will lose track of his character. When that happens, I try to remember the foundations of his character — ‘he sticks to his own guns, and is man of honest principle’. When I get a little lost when playing as him, I remember these principles and am able to act as him again. 放送前にユーザーの皆様へコメントお願い致します。 2.) Before the broadcast begins, please give a comment to all the viewers. I think that most likely everyone who is looking forward to the airing is thinking “What is going to happen with samurai and robots…!?” I’ll be happy if those feelings grow into anticipation while you wait. I’d really like if you watch the story about Yukina and the others who are influenced by Kennosuke who may be awkward, yet earnestly lives true to himself, and start to under go change little by little until the very end. Thanks in advance; please treat me well! Last edited by zztop; 2016-04-22 at 19:31. |

so the alien invasion started 420 years ago? but not records from all over the world were made out of that?
also the fact the aliens seemed to have Japanese based influence or the Japanese civilization is modeled after these 'Oni' aliens, either its just me, Ouma's energy sword got its blade broken by the 'Cactus' robot's attacks during their rescue of Koharu, unless some technology will repair it after that, Ouma's caveman induced culture shock of the 21st century world will be amusing to watch more after this. |

It also shows how advances in knowledge can change our frame of reference on seeing alien things. |

Only two episodes in and Ouma already has a fervient fan, not bad. Despite mecha battles being the obvious draw I like a lot how they portray the man vs machine bouts as well.
Confirmed that Kuromukuro needs not any two pilots but those need to be specifically Yukina and Ouma, otherwise won't budge one inch. And talking about pilots, on further inspection the blondie french is quite the looker, hoping for more of her soon. |

As for where he got his mech, I'm sure we'll get to that in time. Quote:
The fact that he calls them "demons" means nothing. Any true professional or academic would know how to get around that and find out what he knows. Not even trying shows a lot of arrogance and ignorance. Quote:

I'm getting a lot of Suisei no Gargantia vibes by watching this. Especially the culture clash that is happening with our Samurai. That phone scene was hilarious. It's funny because even tho he is used to pilot such a big technological achievement that is his mecha, he freaks out about something so less impressive like a phone. That only shows that even those small things we have for granted are in fact an amazing and a scary technology to the point of view of someone from the past. I hope they explore more of that.
Story-wise, i'm curious about this second coming of the aliens. Who are they and why they came to the Earth? How did Kennosuke get his mecha? What really happened in the past? The anime is interesting so far. Also, the Samurai design is so similar to the Dimension W protagonist. Anyone noticed that? |

Episode 3:
Glad that Kennosuke has a place to stay at Yukina's place thanks to her Buddhist monk uncle. Otherwise, he'll be escaping from his cell again and again! Meanwhile, I'm hoping that in future episodes, Yukina will have a connection between her and the princess. |

Still can't decide if I like or hate the varied episode pacing in anime. It's good when binge watching the show after it's all been aired. Sucks when watching it week to week. |

Episode 4:
Much more chill episode this week with even a shopping date of sorts. I find Ouma's lack of common sense to be rather amusing. Although based on what he sees in that photo, the person in it is his enemy as he describes it as a demon. Really curious about his background story now. Damn, now I also want to eat some curry after this episode.
