The death from 5 years ago that Hammer (Takeshi Ibukuro) was involved in was an accident. Hammer's death was just due to self defense. Killing him probably wasn't Vasquez's (Himegami's) intent but that's just how it turned out after she was attacked.

It being an accident doesn't always stop it from being a crime either.

I will not lie. The anime actually does way better when it's taking liberties with the source material.

It was weird that the anime stopped at her admitting she was responsible for Ibukuro's death. Honestly the outcome of this case was more grey than it was made to look here.

The anime only briefly touches on this, but

it was more about exposing the blackmailing that Himegami had been subjecting Ibukuro to for the last 5 years. So while she would get arrested for something that was fair self-defense on her part (and probably granted leniency), the implication was that she would still be punished for blackmail and probably lose her position at the studio.

But they didn't have adequate time to build that up so murder it is, I guess.

In one of the games a certain character already convicted of murder shows up again. I won't say which game or when, but the point is this means that the assumption that everyone gets executed is wrong.

At least one of the culprits was executed, yes. But the game does nothing to suggest that all criminals get the death penalty. In fact, aside from that single case, and one other case, none of the punishments are known.

Episode 7 was very strong. This show is really improving. I'm happy that it's 24 episodes long.

My one complaint is how they sort of fudged her testimony in this case. I mean, sure it works out. But her messing up that easily felt pretty anticlimatic. Maybe it just feels that way though because I played the game version first quite a while ago. I really liked this case in game. Either way, I'm sure the next case is going to be adapted awesomely, so I'm looking forward to that.

Just watched Episode 7. Whoa, they made Oldbag.... likable? Good move, I'd say.

Excited for the next case, although at some point I wish they'll have an original case or at least a full episode not based on the game.

24 episode cover 2 games? i think it's better to just adapt 1st game or all 3 games. ending the series with 2nd game is pretty weird when 2nd game is all like fillers anyway

I just finished Gyakuten Kenji 2. In fact, that game is a gold mine of great cameos.

This series continues to disappoint me as someone who has played every Gyakuten Saiban game except for the Dai Gyakuten Saiban: Naruhodō Ryūnosuke no Bōken game overseas. The pacing is horrendous and they're removing most of the dialogue and interactions. They're even changing how the evidence is found to fit their rushed schedule.

Oldbag doesn't give the Jack Hammer photo to Phoenix in court. There's a big investigation section where you question several hesitant people and uncover the truth about the tragedy that happened years ago. Here, she just kinda gives it to him because she suddenly felt like it. Blech.

Rivals turned into allies? That was quite a development for the latest case. Apparently, their opponent is Karuma Go and according to stories, he has never lost a case in his 40 year career...

Damn, I'm guessing this will be a very tough case to break.

I just wanted to drop by and say that this episode is definitely an improvement above all others so far. They didn't skip anything really important and even added in a better emotional flashback to something that was honestly just kind of glanced over in the game. Hopefully it can keep this up to save the latter half of the show.

Indeed, I also played the NDS version first and really liked the 5th case as well (Yay Damon Grant and Ema). However it does definitely have a bonus route feeling, while the 4th case does give the feeling of being a conclusion to a journey. Plus you typically want to keep references simple (see, this is the 4th case, which was the last case in this version but not in this other version, where it was the last case in the main story but there was another case after that, so it's not technically the last last case.)
