Kitaaaaa! The episode I've been waiting for! Chinatsu's big decision has arrived! Henceforth she's no longer just accepted into things because she's cute and because she's Maktoto and Akane's cousin: she now has a right of her own to be involved in witch matters. That may not seem like a big deal, since all the magical folks we meet are super-nice and easygoing, but I happen to think it's important.
In other news, I don't blame Makoto for hesitating about eating the bespelled food. The last (known) person who ate magical food Akane made was Inukai, after all. One might notice Makoto checked herself for ears and a tail after eating the pocky Koppy, too. Doing either would make your ribs sore and eyes and mouth and such ache and have other similar negative side effects once the magic wore off. It's one thing to laugh for a bit at something, or cry for a bit about something. It's quite another to be unable to stop.

It was a good idea to have my coffee run out before I could reach the dad scene, or else I would end up spilling them over my monitor.
Also, WTF Chinatsu, planning to eat people if she becomes a witch.

Nice episode this week, we got some magical training and content thanks to Akane as well as some clever tricks from her. I think Chinatsu has the potential to be a good witch if she practices at it. Same with Mikoto as well as she's on the right track to learning the mechanics of flying.

I hope they don't go too deep into the spells and symbols and stuff. I'm not entirely kosher with such things but I can handle them in fiction, but I'd like a friend to see this at some point and I know he'd be just a little edgy at the sight of someone holding her hands out over a magic circle like that.
That said, I was so much in agreement with Akane's line at the start: can I keep her!? I want her! Every house should come with a Chinatsu, you can't stay mad with one of her around. Here's hoping we get even more of her from here on out. Also, I LOVED Chito and Kenny's reactions, those looks that said "why did I sign up to be with these guys again?" are just priceless. ep 7
Geez, Chinatsu's parents seriously are chill as hell as with almost anything huh? Their mom is one thing since she probably grew up with her supernatural relatives, but even Chinatsu's dad had no problems with her becoming a witch. Maybe their those two were childhood friends before they got married and the dad found out weirdness in her family long ago...
And Akane being a Jackie Chan fan probably makes too much sense given her personality. He must look a Wizard to her too with all his crazy fighting antics. I'd think I would go nuts if I was uncontrollably laughing and crying simultaneously for an hour. No doubt it would definitely um... be an experience. |

Anyway when Chinatsu asked for apprenticeship my first thought was "well, now this is going to turn into a shounen show about Chinatsu trying to become THE BEST WITCH IN THE WORLD! with her guts and hard work despite not being born one". Then she said the whole man-eating candy house business and I thought "the girl trained must be not. In her heart darkness she holds!" .

Episode 6: Chinatsu wants to be a witch.
So the secret of not getting a sore butt while flying on a broom, is to just fly yourself while holding a broom? Why is the broom even necessary. So flying pigs do exist. Well, of course Chinatsu would like to become a witch after seeing how cool they are. The parents are cool with anything. A "small, independent movie" that she's too embarrassed to talk about, huh? That sounds interesting. Kei should try and find it. Snack magic! That scene where Chinatsu is holding a pentagram just begs for some funny edits. Okay, that's just bullying. I don't think there's even a purpose to this spell besides pranking someone. And that's what happens when you eat both at the same time. |

Also I'm 100% for a Chinatsu spin-off about her learning about the world of witches.

I would say that the broom functions as a talisman of sorts: it makes the whole process simpler and easier to control. While they could, theoretically, just levitate themselves and fly without the broom, having a physical object there to "ride," even though they aren't actually resting their weight on it, makes the process much easier for them to visualize and control.

I think the broom works the same way as why motorcycles have brakes work independently.
If you lose control of your own flotation, the broom is there to prevent a splat. If you lose control of your broom, you can just ditch it and make a safe landing.

All this talk about the logic behind the flying broom made me wonder how a flying pig would work. Chinatsu clearly liked the idea, so who knows, maybe she will choose a pig instead of a broom. Chinatsu on a flying pig would be a sight to see, although that would make it difficult to live in a candy house, I guess.
So Makoto wants to be a witch for others and for herself. She reminds me of the protagonists of the Atelier games more and more with each new episode. I'd happily play an Atelier game starring her~ By the way, the dad ate almost every magic snack, right? I wonder if it enhances the effect somehow. Quote:
