City Hunter

Well I've only watched the first season... pretty good fun series...

I just wanted to ask... the movies/ova... in what order do i have to watch them? are they before/in the middle of/after the TV series? If in the middle after which episode should i see them?

Any help is appreciated...

Thanks

Watch the movies after you watch episode 5 and BEFORE you watch City Hunter 91. (That's the ending if I remember right)

Except for a very few cases I think you can watch most of City Hunter in any order you like.

How about the last movie The Death of Saeba Ryo... would you still say i should watch it before City Hunter '91?

Well of course as I haven't seen City Hunter 1999 that might change a few.

But of course by the time you watch all 140 Episodes of City Hunter (4 Seasons) and 6 OVA's you would have lost about 53 Hours of your life (Good ones though) I don't think it will matter that you know

Does it matter?

All the episodes boil down to 4 plots.

1) Kaori gets in trouble.
2) Saeko tricks Ryo to do a job for her.
3) Ryo is hired by a woman to do a job that turns out to be hard.
4) Someone from Ryo's past is trying to kill him.

That's about it. You can also mix and match 1-4 to make other episodes.

It does...

Is it ligher or darker?
Are there more jokes in the manga?
Are there any characters in the manga that didn't make it to the anime?
Is Ryo's origin the same as in the anime?
Did the anime leave any of the main plot parts out?
How much filler there is in the anime?

1. Depends on the episode.
2. Hmm, that one is hard to quantify.
3. Oh yes. (Do I remember? Nope, well accept for the lady doctor who became his G/F - Pre Kaori.)
4. I don't think we ever found out about Ryo's Origin? The anime has 3 different origins for him if I remember right. (All military related).
5. I don't know how to answer that. The whole thing is a filler. Other than Karoi liking Ryo and how Falcon came to the Cats Eye we don't have any kind of growth whatsoever.
6. See #5

The reason it doesn't matter is that the whole City Hunter series are a bunch of short stories put together. There isn't some master plot that follows each episode. You can literaly watch city hunter in random order and except to how a particular person (Miki, Falcon, Kasumi - Barely, Saeko, and Kaori) entered the scene you will understand all episodes.

From what a I remember, Ryo was a merc in 4 different continents, and had about 5 different partners who at one time tries to kill him or send their child to kill him.

The 'Robert' arc was probably what pissed me off the most when we meet Robert who likes Karoi's type then we meet Robert's Financee who doesn't look like Karoi at all.

The one thing I do remember we saw more episodes Pre Kaori in the Manga. Before she shows up (I don't remember when but before her brother bites the dust).

It was in season 2 I think. It was Falcon's last mission.

Wow Pongie you waited 11 months for this answer?

Those weren't licensed. So maybe on ebay you can find an R2 sub of the VHS.

To tell you the truth, the manga is way more funny than the anime as most of the joke are lost in the anime version.

Well since Angel Heart is an anime now and you just resurrected a 2 year old dead thread (And I cannot believe I wrote ACCEPT instead of except in one of the posts).

#1 - No he doesn't
#2 - Yes he does
#3 - No he accepts all advances (especially in the manga). But he rejects any kind of LASTING relationship.

And for unanswered Question #4 - She dies before they get married.
And for #5 (Which came from reading #4) - See the anime Angel Heart
