Been meaning to comment on the recently translated chapters, but didn't have enough time.... well, I do now!
![]() Anyways, Henmi Kazuo turned out to be a surprisingly awesome villain! Still not quite on the level of Nihei Tetsuzou, but I especially liked how, personality-wise, he sorta seems like a cross between Hisoka from HxH and Kakihara from Ichi the Killer (the latter for the sadomasochism-esque tendencies and the former for, well.... the boners from thoughts of a thrilling struggle, lol). Heck, even the way the guy died was great: ^Actually, that page as a whole is great on many levels. Shiraishi is surprisingly great as a censorship tool! ![]() ![]() ![]() Anyways, I look forward to seeing how much more..... colorful the tattooed convicts will be from here on out. I also find it interesting that we're getting more focus on Tanigaki now.... perhaps he'll be joining Sugimoto's gang next? |

The more I read this, the more I feel this in essence a Western Adventure movie set in the aftermath of American Civil War.
The Fugitives are getting better and better also crazier and crazier every arc - can't imagine what we'll get next. Henmi even can make Sugimoto get into some sort of killmance. Sugimoto sure loves his Pillbox hat for some reason - the only time we see him without is in flashbacks. What interesting is, how Hijikata and Shiraishi try to use each others without Sugimoto and Asirpa knowing. We've seen contact between Hijikata's gang and 7th Div - now every side is aware about each others, just waiting for some sort of Mexican Standoff in the end. Someone posted the 7th cover of the tank, in there seems like Tanigaki finally embrace the Matagi lifestyle by using Ainu blades and donning Ainu coat. |

Uh, wrong. The guy on the cover of the 7th tank isn't Tanigaki. It's a new character who'll be introduced at the end of volume 5. Just look at their beards, man.
And naw, Tanigaki doesn't join Sugimoto and gang in their gold hunt, he's more than content to remain in the Ainu village and hunt. Last edited by Ladiusman; 2016-04-30 at 20:08. |

Whoa, TWO cliffhangers in one chapter!? This series never fails to disappoint!
![]() And yeah, despite not reading the raws, I can definitely see why Tanigaki would stay behind in the village.... he can help protect the Ainu from enemies while Sugimoto's group are on their adventures. Guess it's time for him to switch to a bow now that he can't use a rifle.... And meanwhile, Sugi's group has a shocking encounter of their own! I doubt Hijikata has any intention of ending their adventure early, though. He seems too interested in the gang to want to kill them right away.... |

Well now, quite an interesting few chapters we've had. We're introduced to a new Ainu character (who's a former 7th div. soldier!), Shiraishi briefly becomes a mermaid (lol), and we learn quite an interesting twist concerning Asirpa's father. But for me, the best part was the omake with Henmi Kazuo (real shame he's already dead now..... he was a fun guy, despite being a messed-up murderer). Boy, I can't wait for the crazy adventures vol. 6 will bring along!

Alright, we're a couple chapters into volume 6 now! And already we're introduced to our next tattooed convict: A.... woman who has quite an interesting way of treating her guests at the hotel she runs. And it looks like her next client is gonna be that big judo guy with the funny forehead (actually, what's up with that, anyway? Is that supposed to be a metal plate or something?)....

What I found strange, is how Ushiyama didn't recognize the hotel proprietress as a fellow Abashiri tattooed prisoner? There are only handful of them, should be in a pretty close prison gang, and they broken out at the same time - Is the way she dresses that strikingly different? So far, the Abashiri prisoners know each others at first glance.

^Racist? How so? I see nothing offensive about a guy adjusting to new tastes....
Anyways, the last few translated chapters were great! Everything from Ushiyama hanging out with Sugimoto's gang (gotta love that "advice" he gave to Asirpa, lol ![]() ![]() |

So we're already in the next arc.... and interestingly, Hijikata is the main player this time around. We've got two rival gangs (one of whose bosses having a freaky horse face) fighting over.... what else? A piece of tattooed skin! It also doesn't help that Ogata's involved in this conflict, as well....
Uh, and I kinda wonder how far "Professor Penis" got with Ienaga? I know he said he's not in love with him, but still. ![]() |
