I was thinking about this episode a little more this evening and was suddenly reminded of the relationship of Jun-kun and Hatoko from the Inou Battle series in relation to the opening moments where Usami was listening to Uchimaki carry on and chuuni and anime things over the phone.
And that actually reminded me of the possibility that Uchimaki (like Jun-kun) could actually be a really late bloomer and not be ready for the sort of seriousness that Usami (like Hatoko) is interested in. I wonder if Imari's arrival will eventually provoke a similar "explosion" which occurred in Inou Battle? I don't mean a 1=1 kind of way, mind you, but in a very general sense - to where Usami really confronts Uchimaki about things? It's kind of hard to say though - one difference that comes to mind comparison wise is how long Hatoko and Jun-kun had spent with each other compared to Uchimaki and Usami. I would be surprised to see the series go there, but it would be interesting if it did. Maybe that is something that might happen a couple of years down the road at earliest? Anyhow ... these are all just thinking aloud, but the main comparison was the similarity of feel between the two pairs based on interactions, like seeing a small sapling and a tree that had grown for several years, but both being of a similar tree.

Episode 6
So Usami is having fun talking to Uchimaki about random stuff she's not interested in at all lol. Good for her. And then she gets a rival in the form of transfer student Imari. One thing she should know though, random people with their hand on their face over their eyes don't necessarily have some black dragon eye power or something awakening. Uchimaki finds a fellow otaku in her and they start to spend time together which even worries Usami despite her knowing that Uchimaki isn't interested in 3-D. Lol Usami and Uchimaki throwing that pillow at each other and the club president was worried about the pillow more than anything. Lol at the book shop when Imari asked if they were dating and Uchimaki confidentiality with a thumbs-up said that there's nothing going on between them. And then the kid's balloon stuck in the tree. Lol Uchimaki asked Usami to get on his shoulder and she immediately denied because of her skirt. And then Uchimaki asks Imari. It was either Imari or her and she goes for it. That was pretty amusing to look at lol. When Imari went for the jump, I expected her to crash land with or without the balloon. But I guess the kid's blank face when Imari said that nonsense was pretty good too. Usami has to live with this rival who may be interested in her Uchimaki. But there won't be any problem since Uchimaki would only get himself a 2-D waifu. |

Usually when a rival appears in romcoms, her role is just to push the main characters closer, and encourage development in them...then end up heartbroken in the end. There's only a shallow pretense that she might actually "win".
This felt different. Aren't Imari and Uchimaki just a perfect match? It's like the game is already over. UNLESS she is not actually a rival.

Wasn't expecting that Arslan reference.
I like Imari already. She seems to understand Uchimaki better than most other characters, though it doesn't seem like she's interested in him in a romantic sense.

But concerning him being a late bloomer, doesn't that contradict with his waifu fetish a bit?

I was referring to "bloomer" here in the sense of a "3d" relationship...in other words, interacting with real life and real people that 2d can never provide.

There's no end to Usami-san's suffering .
Well at least despite all the trolling she does get a sweet moment with Uchimaki-kun here and there (although it's totally unintentional from his side ) PS: RIP to President's expensive pillow and the club funds

There's also the issue of how they interact. Hatoko practically acted like a wife towards Jun while Usami is all about tsundere antics and "can't spit it out" awkward moments. With how oblivious Uchimaki is, her behavior really isn't helping matters even if her intentions are obvious to the viewer. She also had a key chance with her emotional scene at the end of episode 1 but still went right back to the status quo after it. So, at this point I don't really have a ton of sympathy for her if she "loses". I don't know, maybe I am trying too hard to analyze a comedy show. I was very pleasantly surprised with Imari though. Considering that the cast already has a couple "out there" members like Colette and the President, I was expecting her to be a delusional chuuni the likes of Dekomori or Gundham Tanaka. The fact that she seems friendly and down to earth despite being a dedicated otaku and fully self-aware about the goofiness of the chuuni stuff is a serious breath of fresh air. |

Episode 7:
LOL, Usami snapped. Uchimaki ruined a perfect mood when she was wearing that awesome dark outfit. Sigh, if only the mirror wasn't there. Then again, I bet Usami will be fantasizing like she did already with her greeting Uchimaki in an apron as a "wife" from her daydream. She should wear this again! Imari is still awesome as usual, no wonder Colette admires her. Pretty amusing episode.

I would think the English phrase is "one-track mind". Or at least that is what the voices tell me. ^_^
That "wife" scenario. No wonder the room got heated up. He could not draw her panties because the picture would be on display? Does that mean it would have been OK if it was only for his collection? I guess we know the answer to that. Otaku girl was surprisingly mature when dealing with her new disciple. Did not seem to last too long though. |

I really liked how she interacted with Collette and also liked how she happily giggled to herself when watching Usami and Uchimaki from a distance.
