Yay, Benten is back! I'm happy that she's back to grace us with her sinister, charming and mysterious character, but Yasaburo's grandma really has stolen the show! Her VA has such a charming voice, really a sweet grandma. Nidaime too, keeps being an interesting and fun character. I didn't explain etc him to treat Benten that way, really interested to see where that will lead us.
I missed this anime, really love what PA Works is doing here. |

While Benten's entrance was certainly hilarious, it was the scene between her and the Nidaime that really got me. Finally someone else who doesn't worship at the alter of Benten, and then that look on her face afterwards, pure gold. Quote:

And YES, the 天下無敵 and 美人長寿 shirts. I wouldn't mind buying them as gifts for the wonderful ladies in my life to be honest. They're hilarious. |

I have to ask... I find it odd that apparently Tousen hasn't visited her mother or even presented her kids to her since getting married. I almost suspect her mother has dementia.
I really feel so bad for Tousen. She clearly still grieves for the love of her life yet also struggles to keep her family together. It's rather heartbreaking. OTOH just like the rest of you I also want Benten to step on my face. Then again, given what Nidaime did, looks like she has just met her equal. War is afoot.

Yes, she clearly has dementia, and appears to have been that way for some time. Note that Yasaburo went along with introducing himself to her and not identifying himself as her grandson, without any prompting. For all we know, Tousen has introduced all her sons to her many times, and she simply never remembers.

I'm not convinced that's literally Tousen's mother. Given that they visited her at the Tanukidani Jinja, it could be some kind of general "Tanuki Kami" deity - a kind of general grandmother to all tanuki.

I suspect she suffers more from short term memory disability, which is typically the more common ones present in conditions like Alzheimer's, or the difficulty in forming and maintaining new neural pathways as opposed to pre-existing ones. Which accounts for her ability to remember their past history but inability to properly remember things after Tousen's wedding.

Haha that opening's great, Benten became so small all the sudden and I almost forgot she's probably pretty young still too. I really enjoy this other aspect of her characterization, as this side has a lot of girlish charm.
On other hand, Gyokuran is great too! Beautiful name for another amazing lady. Absolutely perfect match for brobro. I really didn't expect her to turn into a tigress as well given her pretty calm composure thus far. Mama took over the show once again with her sly mediation; the "premium" line at the end was great finishing touch that had me chuckling. I must say Yasaburou is an eloquent wingman, that setup was quite elegantly done. For a tanuki with such high EQ, I find that Yasaburou's performance with Benten last episode almost seem like a bait to have Benten say those "dere" lines by pretending to not know what she wants him to say. Probably just me overthinking though. Also, I just realized from the ED that Benten was watching the brothers going into Nidaime's house last episode from the outside when it was hot as hell while planning her entrance Benten pls. Anyway, this episode really worked well with the events rearranged from the book so the entire episode is pretty continuous and conclusive (cliffhanger aside!). Another good job Team PA on the storyboard! |

That was great, one of the most unique shogi matches I've seen in awhile.
Didn't like those brothers that were trying to bully the others though. I also kinda like the "red fur of fate" theme that expresses love between tanuki in this show. It sounds almost kinda poetic if you ask me.

The fury of a woman scorned. On the other end, classic motherly manipulation methods. Two highly contrasting women exerting their own individual brands of "control" over Yasaburo.
One rather understated focus I see this season is a somewhat romantic aspect to their relations. For one you have the love that was lost in Yasaburo's parents. This episode you have Yaichiro and Gyokuran. Then you have what might eventually become unresolved sexual tension between Benten and Nidaime. So yes I still ship Yasaburo and Kaisei.

This is indeed, better than the first season, and not only because they're focusing on the romance, they're having some interesting characters moving around like tenyama and nidaime.
And it also looks like they found the secret base
