Mizore (blonde twintails) is, IIRC, by some distance the youngest in the cast, while Kirie (meganekko) have 'stalled' her growth at 13, and she's reasonbly sized in the manga (and the preferred fanservice girl), and for Kuroumaru (dark twintails) the androgynous figure is somewhat of a plot point |

I want to remind all the manga readers that manga-based discussions are only allowed if you're comparing how something happened in the anime versus how it happened in the manga. (Don't forget to put such discussion in a spoiler box!)
Discussions of what may or may not happen in the anime based on manga information is not allowed. Ever. Not even if you put it in a spoiler box.

No. It's a sequel to a manga that ended five years ago. There are no anime adaptations of that manga: the animes that carry it's name are not adaptations of the manga. If you try to watch them as a prequel to this you will become much more confused.

Anyway, this got me to finally give the UQ Holder manga a try. I'll reserve my thoughts on that for the manga thread. But so far it seems like a pretty fine adaptation that is sticking close to the original material. Spoiler for Differences:

Sure, the more recent OVAs were fine (more recent... bloody hell, those were nine years ago!), but they can't be watched in a vacuum. They assume the people watching them have knowledge of the manga up until those points, which is nearly 200 chapters in.

UQ Holder is literally a series that was made to bring an actual closure to Negima manga.
Because Negima manga actually got an early end due to Publisher Issues. That's why a lot of things in UQ Holder simply assume you know about Negiima manga and what happened in there. Basically, be ready to assume you understand certain things, such as Eva and her past history. ___ ___ ___ And yea... all the other "anime" of Negima are basically "kids mode" of the actual series, even the adaptation of the adaptation is an alternative universe. There was only a few OVA series that was from Negima manga, and only because they were bundled with the manga itself. Last edited by chaos_animagic; 2017-10-08 at 23:58. |

Oh the OVAs are pretty darn great! They are great because they pretty much stick 100% to the source material. But as other say they can not be watched in vacum really, any more than the chapters they adapt can be read as standalone things.
Yeah, the writter and the publisher got in a spat, writter threatened and then went through with the threat of ending the manga RIGHT now if things were not resolved satisfactorily. Lesson is I guess don't call Ken's bluffs. Yeah UQ Holder is the writter wanting to play in the same verse with some old of the old characters again. BUT I don't think you NEED to know the source to enjoy it. Since we are seeing things through the POV of a country bumpkin so they tend to explain things one might know from Negima since the MC doesn't know them. Expirience is of course better if you know the characters and understand why some caracter just casually walking into public area is a MONUMENTALLY BAD NEWS. Also if nothing else the manga itself did show the actual resolution of the Negima in the latest 3.5 chapters. But that's getting off toppic.

Wow...that OP was quite the surprise nostalgia
I've been following the manga for a while, so to me, it's looking good...although, I kinda imagined Kirie having light brown hair instead of blonde If I were to nitpick on something, it'd be... Spoiler for possible minor spoilers, so just in case:
It's nothing serious. So yea, looking forward to see how the adaptation goes

I didn't even remember this OP had been recycled from one of the Negima! series (I don't consider them as adaptations, only the last OVA series, and it was only a bad attempt at a taste of a full-blown adaptation)

Ah yes. I have also found the decision to make Kirie a blonde strange. I mean it seems that the convention was for blondes like Eva to have WHITE hair in manga. And in manga Kirie's hair is not blonde but gray. So I too pictured it as pink or something darker.
I wonder if it was allways blonde.
