The ending to this was... alright. I don't think it's bad by any means, but it all wrapped up a bit too neatly with a perfect little bow for my tastes. I'll be curious to see how the manga handles things.
8/10.

That was pretty satisfying ending anime original or not. While wasn't some hiccups along the way, this a fantastic series which did the justice to it's source that it deserved. I'll miss tune every week for it.
It's possible, but I don't think either are related. Ashen Eye strike me as capricious asshole rather than a Big Bad or any sort. Humans suffering is just fun game to him and there is plenty of that in world. |

A very nice ending but it would of been better if there was 2 more episode or at the stop before the dragon so it didnt feel so rushed Then there is Chise who just seems to go so far when she helping out

All that emotion in one episode. Chise looked angry, distressed, happy, silly, beautiful and cute in one episode.
It's been a good series. A bit meandering at points, but it at the very least helped the world come alive. So many shows have settings that just don't go anywhere even if it sounds novel but this show avoided it. Which is great. Also new OP for last episode?

Loved how this show started, but the last few episodes just didn't pull me in that much. The last episode especially didn't strike me as being particularly good... the ending was... too perfect? Everything that was wrong was conveniently swept under the rug to be solved in a decade or so.
Cartaphilus was understandably mad about being stuck in an "alive, but not quite" state for the last couple thousand years, but Chise's mother killed herself, so that's basically the same, right? Let's hug it out and everything will be fine. Ehh. |

One of the things I love about MnY is the world building, and I think that lagged a bit in the second half of the series due to time constraints. Other than that, and a few other nit-picks (cough*lack of original OP animation*cough) I think the anime has done a very good job at realizing the story of the original manga. My one qualm going forward, especially as a manga reader, is that as it stands, Chise seems to have reached her character resolution after coming to terms with her memories of her mother. Out of all her curses, that one had burdened her the most, and IMO contributed a lot to her self-loathing and inability to live for her own sake. With it out of the way I’m not sure what there is to develop for her character besides gaining greater experience as a mage and advancing her relationship with Elias.
As for the ending, part of me is glad they didn’t pull a deus ex machina and somehow have Chise lift Joseph/Cartaphilus’ 2000 year old curse. The solution Chise found isn’t perfect, as her sleeping spell will wear off someday, but if the expiration date on her life has now been erased, it’s possible that she’ll live a very long life like Lindel or Elias, provided that the balance between the dragon curse and the immortality curse inside of her remains unchanged. There’s also the fact that Cartaphilus/Joseph seem content with this arrangement, and is in no hurry to wake fully and suffer the agony of eternal life again. Though, on that note, I wonder if Cartaphilus’ body also stops decaying while he is under Chise’s sleeping spell. Because if not, Chise and Elias is gonna have a sentient compost pile in their garden terrace in a few years… >_> |

After the credits rolled I went and filled a shot glass, then toasted Elias and Chise. I felt it was the right thing to do. Best of luck to them both! And this was an outstanding, beautiful series. Bravo!

I really loved this show (plus the music), but I did feel it really chugged toward the end and I didn't really enjoy the last 4-5 eps as much as the first half of the series. However the last ep was nice and overall it was a great show.
