While I liked the original series very much, I am looking forward to seeing how the new Yamato team expands the story (I am loving 2202 right now). I like the classic Star Trek vibe the new shows have with a bit of Battlestar Galactica thrown in. If they continue on this course it will be very interesting to see if and how they use the old alien races (Dark Nebula, Bolar, Dinguil, and others) for new stories.

The interview with Izubuchi stating this was translated for Our Star Blazers: Director Yutaka Izubuchi on "Ark of the Stars."

Received the Theater Exclusive of Volume 5 in yesterday's mail... Holy crap. The original content in these four episodes is pretty staggering. While they are combining the basic plot of both the movie and series - they are also flipping the entire proverbial table over - incorporating completely new elements that are breaking ground and going well outside of the box, building upon 2199, wholly fresh and going in bold, shocking, and unimaginable directions.

Whether one perceives them to be "stupid" or not, is completely on the individual, and not necessarily a stone-cold fact. By setting the tracks in which they are taking the narrative, it's moving further past the restraints of the original movie and series. But, is that really a bad thing if the new Yamato franchise is going to be going into virgin territory after 2202? There were things I didn't like about 2199, but I'm reserving a full judgement on 2202 until I see Episode 26. Whatever they do, it doesn't erase SARABA or YAMATO 2 - we can still enjoy them. Personally, I'm looking forward to what they're going to give us beyond 2202.

On May 26th I ran a Star Blazers Fleet Battle System game at Kublacon in California based partly on the Battle of Saturn (using outdated information from before Chapter Five was released)
http://www.star-ranger.com/forum/vie...p?f=35&t=12556 Below has many images and a lot of text as it is the Battle Report and the Fleet List used for the battle.

since the yamato2202.net site updated, here's some Google translated info:
Time Fault Control Ship Prometheus The time fault that was born as a byproduct of the Cosmo Reverse system brought back by Yamato is the antigravity singular point where the time of the outside world advances by 10 times. However, the Earth Federal Government made use of the different space as a secret military factory, and has made a major increase in the production of wave cannon equipped ship. However, because it is impossible to make management staff resident, the dreadnought battleship, which is equipped with a new type of wave engine, was diverted as a controller of the factory in the fault. We always use dimensional dimensional enclosure canceller which is equipped to match elapsed speed in acceleration of warp acceleration and elapsed time of global time, enabling life support inside the fault. The bridge is expanded than the normal type. Also, the bridge window is blocked and external information is displayed on the screen. Patrol ship It is a patrol specification of a light armored cruiser equipped with a wave cannon in [Wave firing fleet plan]. Excellent speed, long-term independent mission away from fleet action is possible. Equipped with a radar system at the upper part of the bridge and at the ship's bottom, it features sign flag display by blue turning lights and holograms. Bomb weapons are small positron turrets and torpedo launch tubes, as well as small wave motion guns equipped on the bow. Ship Type: Light Armored Cruiser Overall Length: 188 m Overall Width: 42.2 m Passenger: 9 Officers / 46 crew Armament: Small Wave Gun × 1 Gate (Bow) 3 Connection Turret × 3 Triple Torpedo Tube × 4 Base missile launcher × 8 units liaison machine × 1 machine (There is a landing on the ship's bottom) Escort ship A small ship (frigate) built to fulfill a wing of [wave fire fighter concept] is excellent in high mobility performance. Originally, the wave fire fighter was planned to be composed of D class battleships, but as the fleet expanded it was developed as a small wave motion gunboat with simple construction and mass production. Bomb weapons are small positron turrets and torpedo launch tubes, as well as small wave motion guns equipped on the bow. Battle of the Saturn off the coast of Gatlantis' invasion into the solar system was the first team, but in the high-gravity area, its high mobility became an enemy and was forced to struggle. Type of ship: Full frigate Ship length: 113.3 m Overall width: 18.5 m Passenger: 6 officers / 38 crew Weaponry: miniature wave gun × 1 gate (bow) 3 connected turrets × 3 units two consecutive anti-aircraft pulse laser turrets × 4 Base (ship back) Triple torpedo launch tube × 4 Large torpedo launch tube × 2 (bow lower part) Four consecutive missile launchers × 2 (bridge base side) Four consecutive gunned grenade launcher × 2 units (bridge base side) liaison machine × 1 aircraft (with a landing point on the ship's bottom) GaiSengan weapons group - self-destructive attacking ship Eator I A kind of weapons group of Gaisengan. A large fighter developed to counter the wave barrier. Neutralize and shield the enemy ship's shield, pierce the hull. After that, a special weapon that fires a rotary turret and detonates itself. It was mounted on the deck of Barsey during the battle of the Saturn sea, and it carried out a melee attack on the Enceladus defensive fleet of the Earth Federation. Total length: 135 m Weaponry: wave barrier neutralization system single molecule cutting angle 2 main turrets Weisengun Weapons Group ˇ Apocalyx-class Aerial Vessel Barsey A type of Gyaengun weapons group, a ship of over 1200 m in total length. Although it is a large aircraft carrier as a ship type, its scale can no longer be called a moving bridgehead, and it was newly constructed in accordance with the invasion of the Earth of Gatlantis. Vertically symmetrical hull is flight deck and hangar and can carry about 600 desktop batteries. During the naval battle off Saturn, Bauley commander came on board and loaded 80 gigantic fighter Eater I on the deck. Rotating the upper and lower deck, developed this loading machine by centrifugal force. Bomb weapons are concentrated on the upper and lower surfaces of the hull, equipped with a main body gun and anti-aircraft gun, as well as a drum type beam launcher (which can also be converted to a bomb surge mode). In addition, the bow has a large beam cannon for crushing forward obstacles and opening the route. Total length: 1,240 m Running track for departure ship: 4 × 2 Number of mounted onboard aircraft: Approximately 600 units Armament: Main turret × 10 units Anti-aircraft turret × 16 units Proximity defense firearm × 32 units rotary beam launcher × 2 Base beam gun for destroying obstacles × 2 gates |
