Episode 6
This episode felt really fast for some reason. Maybe it's because how much I'm invested into this Shizu character. Got to know slightly more about her past too. I'm guessing the show will reveal more and more about her character as time passes on. Also, I think she and Rimuru has some interesting character chemistry already. (including that little joke Rimuru made) In terms of combat, it looks like she is a fire type based on the skills shown so far. On a comical note, I love how they get some short details on how Gobta made his escape.

Yes. That sentence is a direct reference to Dragon Quest, that's why she immediately figured out about the joke and knew Rimuru was a former Japanese person (of course, this is quite anachronic considering the first DQ game was released on 1986). Also, the air raid was pretty much the bombing of Tokyo during WWII, hence why he felt it would have been a good idea to show a peaceful Japan and its present era.

Yeah. It went quite quickly. Nice relaxing episode but never felt boring. Definitely feels like setup though.

Feels strange how we know a lot about Shizu's background but almost nothing about her current motivations. Some game memes are quite old. Another Dragon Quest one is "There's no reply. It's just a corpse". |

It's been quite a while already with the episode count, and we have yet to see Rimuru's human form. Then I notice something, and then I remembered something else.
Rimuru's human form looks similar to Shizu. The fortune teller said Shizu is destined to be with Rimuru. Add to that, we don't see Shizu as part of the group with Rimuru in the OP. Putting two and two together... Personally, I'm hoping for the happiest outcome. The pacing of the story is a bit slower than I like, but it's still nice to watch. I'm wondering if this episode is the start of a new volume in the Light Novels?

I did find interesting seeing the fire spirit merging with her tho. Her only power seems to be afinity to fire allowing the fusion with the spirit. I wonder who the other guy was. He not only summoned someone from other workd but also had authority over a powerful fire entity able to kick Veldora's ass :O Proof of greatness right here. I didn't feel anything dragging too much. Everything felt right with a perfect pace. I would be surprised if it had any filler. The episode felt real fast. This studio is, surprisingly, doing a fantastic job!! |

1. Shizu 2. "The Hero" who sealed Veldora (shown in Veldora's flashback and also stands back to back with a bit of distance to Shizu in one scene during the OP) 3. "The person who fight Rimuru near the end of the OP", who also appears a bit earlier in the OP, namely when we get a frontal view of that person leaning on a sword in a church-like building with several other characters in the background. And before any WN readers want to "point something out" about something I just wrote, yes I am aware of it (I've read up until chapter ~200), but no, there is no need to mention it.

uh... Shizu grimaced way too soon after her introduction so I'm worried the next episode is going to be downer. It's the old "a cough in the first act" thing I guess.
Also, does anyone else think Rimuru was a bit too open and chatty when he met the new characters? |
