This is set up perfectly for a Yukino end. Hopefully that's the case (or nobody wins), since I've never liked Yui's dynamic with Hachiman (at least not as a potential romance). Plus, Yui already won in the alternate series, so I don't think that's likely to happen again.

The original ending he had in mind since starting writing the series HAS NOT changed and he will keep it to the end.

The more critical ones are aware of the fact that Watari started a meaningless back and forth that resulted in everything, but progress in the latest volumes. As a fan of her character, they will be naturally happy, but not with the way Watari dragged out the full confrontations between the main trio, and kept the MUH DEPENDENCY thing on.

In masamune, the Mc was hinted to end with someone in the last few chapters, then ended up with someone else entirely in the very last chapter = felt like netori. Here, it’s still not clear who he’s gonna end up with, if any. Both yui and Yukina have chances. But I think we can now rule out the others (iroha, Sensei, etc.)

It really surprises me, how people may see this story as some kind of competition between Yui and Yukino, there is no such thing.

Remember, when Yui is thinking about Hachiman, in her thoughts she doesn’t call him by name, she doesn’t have to, she calls him “he”. But when Hachiman thinks about a person and call this person “she” it’s always Yukino, with no exceptions. He loves her, yet he doesn't know it, cause he doesn’t understand his own feelings, and it’s not just about Yukino, it’s more generic problem. He disallows himself to feel.

But there will be no ‘Yukino-end’, cause this story is not about pairing, it’s not about romance, it’s not about love. It's about growing up. So what will happen? Now it’s relatively easy to predict.

Spoiler for prediction:

Hachiman will not fulfill Yui’s wish, cause he does not know it, he disallowed himself to know that kind of things. So he will tell her he is willing to fulfill her wish instead. And poor sweet Yui will have no choice but become a Hero.

Remember, he always was her Hero, she says, he always saved her. Well, now... now she can do the same for him.

He may not act based on his wishes, even when a girl he loves tells him she wants to endup their relationships all he can say is “My reasons to concern myself with her has all disappeared”. Well, Yui will give him a reason to act - she will demand him to drop his shields and accept his own feelings. She will stop acting as a victim, lady in distress, and become a Hero herself to save a man she loves. She will become a better and much stronger person as a result. I think she may become just as fabulous as her mother. But in short term that will make her a very sad person and I suspect she will not confess him, to not let him act upon guild towards her.

And this demand will be a greatest gift for Hachiman, cause he will become alive again. He will accept his feelings, including his love, he will literally be saved. But again - there will be no ‘Yukino-end’, he will not even confess to her. Why? Because otherwise this story would be named differently, something like ‘fairy tales comes true’. But instead he says ‘Our last conversation has ended’ and I kind of tend to trust him on the subject.

Hachiman will have to accept the fact that Yukino is just not ready for this kind of relationships. Her family failed to treat her properly, she may not falling in love without building this twisted, depended, unhealthy relationships. Yes, he may easily become her heroin, but what’s good in that? So he will have to overcome his big-brother pattern and let her go.This time - consciously.

As for Yukino.. she’ve already made her choice. I don’t think it was a good choice, but I’m afraid she had no choice at all. Maybe one day she will recover. Maybe Hayato will be lucky enough to see this day, who knows.

And maybe I’m completely wrong.

^The major flaw with that theory is that it goes against the "I want something genuine" line that 8man gave us awhile back. For them to ignore all of this romantic tension and just end it with an open or non-romance ending, kinda contradicts that.
