As was already said, Asahi is probably being brought in as a Nakiri so that he'll inherit Tootsuki and the rest and Erina will be free to work at Yukihira's with Souma. If it does happen, it would sadden me because that would mean Alice is worthless in the eyes of the family. It's not like you absolutely need a superpower to become the Head. Sanzaemon has none, besides the stripping, which all Nakiris have anyway.

The epilogue chapters have been some of the best in months. Taking this long to finally delve into Soma's mother is a near tragedy though but the chapter was enjoyable because of that backstory.
Though I am amused by the sudden shoehorning of Asahi's father out of nowhere. |

Wouldn't be surprised if that were the case.
As far as I know, a good number of Shounen Jump stories end with the protagonist going on doing his/her own thing while leaving the other characters with long-lasting bonds and memories. |

Open-ended endings usually depend on the kind of endings they are. But more times than not, I agree with you.
Japanese authors seem to prefer such endings so they're left to fans' interpretation or leave room for a follow-up. I'd rather have a properly conclusive ending, with every plot point resolved, either good or bad. |
