Been rereading the series and came across 127 again.
I agree that Makoto's whole naivete brings him down a notch in terms of mercantilism. He was well and truly whipped. As an immature kid from peaceful modern Japan, it makes sense that he got called out on it. But it doesn't seem to be a problem from a reader's standpoint, because he has all this power behind him. Even if the representative (I know who he is btw) threatens to close him down, he basically fails to note that "Raidou" has two 1000+ adventurers at his side. Whatever was stopping Makoto from going to the Demons side and supporting their side of the war then, if he dared push this young kid too far? Basically, Makoto used everything available to him IF he were a normal upstart merchant who got lucky. But he hasn't used his full arsenal of options including physical harm, store relocation causing the 4 great nations to go gung ho on the Merchant's Guild for letting him slip out their grasp, or crying to Rembrandt who is as powerful as a small country. All that power should have gotten Makoto the option to continue his "naive" operation. Because while the guild has no obligation to let him run all over them, Makoto also has no obligation to heed their warnings. It's been a dilemma ever since I first read it. It's a good problem for the MC to overcome, the problem is that the MC already has the tools to overcome it, and the author made it that the MC either suddenly forgot he had these options or made the MC not consider it in the first place, which is jarring. The Merchants Guild literally cannot bully him out of the market. What will they do, launch cheaper prices vs Kuzunoha's superior products? Try to ambush non-existing supply lines? Threaten the citizens that they will be blacklisted if they buy from Kuzunoha? The people will just patronize Kuzunoha stronger then. Imagine if they tried crying to the church. The church won't listen to them because Kuzunoha has unimaginable gold reserves. XD |

Well we had several new chplter now. I hope this keeps up. And just to be clear: one can actually rid him/herself of Tomoki's charm but to do so is to shed a lot of blood. Holy hell...And of course as we already know you still have the memories of what you did. Looks like Makoto's solution of 'mercy killing' is the best one….
And our poor Merchant tries to sell a troublesome sword and he can't see how precious this sowrd is

Limia does not have slavery and objectively speaking subjucating demons is still lesser evil and only way to get both sides into position where dialog is eventually actually possible.
Hibiki plans treats demons akin post WW2 Japan.
