Spoiler:

Chapter 1: Philip-kakka starts the Nazarick war on Re-Estize by raiding one of their grain caravans heading to the Holy Kingdom.

Both the Sorcerer Kingdom and Re-Estize is confused by the above caravan raid but Ainz inadvertently sasugas Demiurge and Albedo into turning it into a casus belli for the total annihilation of the Kingdom.

Chapter 2: Nazarick officially declares war on Re-Estize (Albedo visits royals) and both sides have a month to prepare. Ainz decides that each Floor Guardian should try their own methods to take down the Kingdom and pretty much allows them free reign.

But Nazarick hoodwinks the Kingdom's factions as they were secretly invading their northern borders during the month's ceasefire, why? - because they isolated the capital from its northern supply lines and breaking any possible support they can receive from the Argland Council State.

One of the Re-Estize port cities is attacked by a Death Knight, Death Warrior, and a horde of low-level zombies but eventually gets saved by Azuth of Red Drop who pilots a YGG item called an armored core. Think of these as mech-like armor sets, bit of a gimmick item though but strong in this NW setting.

Chapter 3: the build up chapter to the big battle to occur.

Zanac and the nobles try to seek a surrender but Ainz rejects it. However the noble caste kill off Zanac in the hopes offering his head would placate themselves to the Sorcerer King. This horribly backfires where Ainz gets disgusted at the betrayal and has these nobles spend some quality time in the Nazarick "fun rooms" while giving the Floor Guardians orders to wipe out the Re-Estize Kingdom.

you also get a scene with some Black Scripture members trying to recruit the Kingdom's adventurers away as Theocracy knows the Kingdom is about to be destroyed

Chapter 4: the big battle in the Re-Estize capital.

Albedo fights Azuth which is basically a cat and mouse battle. Nothing really happens here though as Azuth is trying to stall Albedo (and vice versa) into not interfering with the big fight which is...

The Sorcerer King vs "Platinum" - which is a battle of proxies between Ainz and the Platinum Dragon Lord. The Sorcerer King in this case being Pandora's Actor shifted into Momonga and "Platinum" being PDL's remote armor. Battle ends when Albedo returns and basically gives the remote armor a little whooping and so "Platinum" is forced into a retreat.

Basically war concludes with the Floor Guardians (mostly Mare) going ham on the Kingdom and wiping out 90% of its populace, destroying nearly every city, and reducing the capital to rubble. Hence the title - the Ruined Kingdom.

Epilogue: Ainz intends to take Aura & Mare to Elf Country to escape from any Nazarick responsibilities for a while.

and title of Volume 15 is revealed to be The Half Wood Elf God-kin, so Zesshi


other notables:

Remedios is dead, off-screened.

Neia is literally the head of the Holy Kingdom's church faction. She is called the Faceless One and her personal seal was on Nazarick's war declaration instead of the Holy Kingdom's more traditional one.

This war - or rather this volume's contents - is basically what happens when the plan goes "off-script".

Azuth's armored core basically makes him a lv.60 by YGG standards. Azuth in the suit is stronger than Evileye but is much weaker without it as his entire class set is built upon using this armor. These item sets raise all user stats to its appropriate levels except for HP and MP and each piece has preset moves like magic spells or attack maneuvers.

Blue Rose has no combat scenes in this volume. Evileye teleports the group away before the captial city is taken by Nazarick.

PDL introduces himself as "Riku Aganeia" - big theory now is that this could be the name of Leader of the 13 Heroes.

The cover undead is a Doom Lord - a lv.70 undead summon that has a high stat pool far beyond his level at the cost of having a negative HP regen. So think of it as a "timed summon". It even has a skill called [Ruinous Night] that increases its stats moreso for an increase in that HP tick.

PDL comes away from this battle sequence with alot of misconceptions of the Sorcerer King Ainz. However Ainz - who was watching his battle with PA on Mirror of Remote Viewing - gains useful insight knowing the magic being used on screen was similar to that of a WCI effect.

Aura kills Gazef's mentor, Vesture Kloff Di Laufen, during the capital battle. Long range snipe with an arrow. She and her pets also loot the various capital estates for anything of value.

Cocytus kills Brain during the capital battle. Brain's talent is talked about here where he uses a Martial Art combo that exceeds what Gazef could pull off - [Field] [God Flash] [Ability Boost] [Greater Ability Boost] [Sixfold Slash of Light]. Cocytus rates it as a lv.40 in power before he one-shots him with his God Slaying Emperor Blade.

Eight Fingers members are spared in the war, and their families, and become residents in that Sixth Floor village (project utopia). Shalltear throws Coccodoll into the Black Capsule (roach room) to get "baptized" before he joins his cohorts.

Only a handful of the noble caste survives this war, Raeven being one of them. Most of the spared are those who defected to Nazarick during the month long wait until the war officially started. They were being used to stem the flow of information from reaching the Royal faction. And it was from Raeven's perspective that reader learns the final aftermath of the war casualties.

So to get to the whole "witch" part of this volume...

After the capital is taken by Nazarick, King Rampossa is implied to be killed by Renner with Razor's Edge, but this scene is off-screened as its aftermath is shown from Climb's perspective. Then we get a big "boss" fight between Ainz (real one) vs Climb wielding Razor's Edge and using that Wild Magic ring.

But this is a skit planned out by Renner to give Climb a heroic stand. Albedo was originally suppose to play the part but Ainz interjects himself wanting to roleplay a "villain" and do something during this war. After a bout with their swords, Ainz kills Climb-kun with [Grasp Heart].

Renner's race change item is the Fallen Seed one - turns you into a demon. It is implied it needs "sacrifices" to trigger its use with Renner using the orphanage she established in V10 and those in it (kids + attendants) as those "ingredients" by way of poison. Killing her father might have also been a requirement but I don't think that was ever stated to be.

Reader gets to see Renner's race change when Climb is resurrected, and in his weakened state is convinced by Renner to accept this new change. Climb is under the misconception that he and Renner are basically hostages of Nazarick and Renner basically sold her soul for his resurrection. It is implied by Albedo that Climb too will eventually race change into an imp.

On Renner's character sheet, it says her room is on the Nazarick Ninth Floor and her hobby is "boning" Climb. So take that as you will

Philip-kakka! Well this supreme idiot gets dunked on by Albedo at volume's end. Being the face of who triggered the Kingdom's destruction, he takes up the hobby of drinking himself away but runs out of booze one lazy afternoon to be greeted by a really pissed virginbus. And he gets pulled by the ear to see the repercussions of as Albedo puts it "throwing mud in her face".

Basically Albedo kills everyone within Philip's domain, Vlad the Impaler style, and plants them in front of his estate. But Philip is dragged off to have "fun times" in Nazarick.

Yep, and there is an icon in the text writing box you can select when you highlight desired text. It is a yellow warning sign (triangle with a !) and it will occasionally slide over to reveal part of a face looking out. Its next to the #.

Can someone explain to me why Ramposa refuses to give Philip up to Ainz? He has already seen what Ainz would do if you piss him off, the better chance is to do what he says and don't think about it too much.

This plays into two problems:

1. The kingdom lacks the intelligence apparatus, which means they can't verify what is true or not. The kingdom has very little talent and no incentive to procure more.
2. The King lacks political power to sacrifice his nobles. If you recall, Ramposa is a good man but a weakling, and therefore a terrible king. He lacks the strength to go after the nobles and their factions.

2. That's nothing compared to what Ainz and co are about to do to the Kingdom. And his action to sacrifice himself doesn't solve the issue at that time. Gazef made the sacrifice and Philip stealing broke the deal. So, the same thing can't work.

it was more likely Rampossa's real goal was to offer his own head to end this war before it started

then this would have allowed Zanac to take the throne with some high ground to get rid of the negative elements in their Kingdom's society

a theory out there is Nazarick's original goal was to place Zanac on the throne with Renner sealing the deal on the Kingdom's vassalage

problem was Albedo, who this was offered to, could have given 2-shits about it

Nazarick at that point had convinced themselves this was all part of Ainz's Candy & Whip stratagem so Re-Estize really had no chance here but directly appealing to Ainz himself

which they had no opportunity to do so, nor even realized that was their only way out

Overlord Novel Series Ends With 17th Volume

Kugane Maruyama confirmed in the 14th compiled book volume of his Overlord novel series on March 12 that the series will end with the 17th volume.

I don't think it will end with volume 17, he was angry about the whole thing, plus there is a serious risk that the story will be rushed if it ends with volume 17

it doesnt matter what you think, if the author said that hes is going to end the series, is going to end it.


The story wil be rushed dont doubt. But the real reason why he wants to end the series is the same reason tha Miura has with Berserk and many other authors with their respectives series, he is burnout and sick of Overlord.

eh, it doesn't matter much because there isn't really much of a threat to ainz and the story while story setting is good it's not that exciting to me. it's nice to know the author would end the story the way the author wants and not drag it more.

Except he had said in interviews that he had more than 20 volumes' worth of content planned out.
