A comment I've read me me think about something regarding that flower Aerith gave Cloud when they first met. She said it's a symbol of reunion. Maybe it has a double symbolism. Maybe Aerith already saw future events that early in the game and recognized Cloud thus giving him a flower of reunion. She certainly acts too comfortable around him even though they just met. And even spent too long in chatting with him that the Whispers had to chase her away lol. And that flower is again used for the reunion between Cloud and Tifa later

Edit: I forgot that that flower also made another appearance when Aerith went to save Marlene. And cute scene when Aerith realizes the flower she gave Cloud is being taken good care of in Seventh Heaven.

Speaking of Marlene, I wonder what she saw in her vision when she hugged Aerith?

Seeing Cloud and Aerith pushed away from Reno after battle where Reno supposed to win, I imagine we will see something like Cloud and Cid manages to handle the rocket situation but Whispers correct it as they shouldn't be able to win. Zack case is the only unique case (Biggs and Wedge too? I wonder) as said moment only have horde of Whispers chasing Sephiroth to justify lack of Whispers correcting timelines during their plot point, it can be good or bad depends on how they explain it on next installment.

That's not what was happening with the Whispers regarding Zack. There were certainly enough Whispers to kill Zack (you can see them flying
around the Shinra mobs about to shoot Zack before he fights), but they disappeared across all timelines once Cloud's party took them out. Therefore, in this alternate timeline where there are no Whispers, Zack survives.

In this timeline, the damage is already done. It's not as if Zack literally walked by Cloud and Aerith as they were leaving Midgar, as that was only a vision. Even Cloud with his memory issues would have reacted if he saw himself passing by.

The idea is that since they eradicated the Whispers, future events for them aren't set in stone, so predetermined events (like Cloud giving Meteor to Sephiroth, Aerith's death, and the events of Advent Children) are no longer set in stone.

My theory on that is either it was just a vision of a divergent timeline where Zack survived his encounter with the Shinra soldiers or it was a vision of Zack and Cloud after first escaping from where they were held.

Either way I think Zack is still dead in this timeline otherwise why would Cloud have the Buster Sword if Zack survived.

At the end of the Zack scene, you can see a flyer of Stamp (Shinra's dog mascot) fly through the camera.

The mascot is a different design from the Stamp you saw throughout the game earlier.

It's almost certainly a different timeline.

I'm not saying there's not enough Whispers to kill Zack.
What I'm saying is Zack (before) and Zack (after) have different amount of Whispers; as I said, Zack at the end is surprised he can win against the troopers and most likely noticed amount of troopers surrounding him is not as many as what he thought as, be it Crisis Core and this Remake, he's marching forward ready to die outnumbered.

I know eliminating Whispers allow them to reach different outcome, thus I said before "It allow them to have options for story" as we won't need to stay with OG history path but at same time, due to fact that Whisper exist, stick with OG history may be the better choice after all. I'd say for now the questions are 'Whispers, are they truly gone once and for all?' and 'how far elimination of Whispers affect things considering different Shinra flyer?', or the wild ride, 'is there other time-traveller aside of Sephiroth'?

Given the Compilation games already disregarded the original game's themes entirely? Yes. They are more than capable of doing so.

It's also questionable whether Cloud will be mentally unstable enough to be controlled by Jenova!Sephiroth into giving up the black Meteor materia, considering he just went through not just one, but two mental Sephiroth battles just fine (first with the Whispers, second at the "edge of creation").

The earlier awareness does not necessarily change the requirements needed to stop Meteor. It changes the chronology and sense of urgency sure, and possibly the arrangement of certain events, but in the end you could actually still need Holy to stop it.

Which means that IF she now lives, they have to retcon the entire event in the City of Ancients such that Aerith is no longer in a situation that puts her in a sacrificial setting, or change the requirements to summon Holy.

And again, her death is such a central event in the entire FF7 lore that retconning her death will be the single most controversial change in the remakes if they go down that road and will have a massive effect on the fandom for better or worse.
