Loving Males (not BL)
I'm looking for anime with two males who love each other in a non-romantic way. The closest thing I can think of is Gon and Killua from Hunter X Hunter. The relationship between Kamina and Simon from TTGL isn't quite what I'm looking for even though Simon loves Kamina (and Kamina loves Simon). That's more a brother-type relationship or mentor/student relationship. A sweet friendship maybe?
The second type of loving male relationship I'm looking for is where one guy thinks another guy is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yamaguchi from Haikyu!! is an example of this as he very much loves Tsukishima. I'm really looking for anime, but if anyone knows any books or other media, feel free to recommend. I'm also always looking for anything I ask for, so if someone reads this two months from now and knows one, I'd still be appreciative of a recommendation. So anyone got any suggestions? |

I think the word you're looking for is "bromance".
A significant feature of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans There's also Vinland Saga and 91 Days. [EDIT] Although in hindsight, none of those examples end on a happy note...

There's also:
Kids on the Slope - Two guys and jazz Promise of Neverland - Orphan kids similar to Gon and Killua Showa Era Rakugo - Two guys growing up learning the same trade together. Sword of the Stranger - A kid and a ronin.

Gungrave, though, it's bittersweet.
Tales of Vesperia - these guys remind me of the protagonists from Road to El Dorado, which isn't an anime, but also recommended in this category. Air Gear kinda gets something like that going on later on, but my memory is fuzzy since it's been 14 years since I watched it. Sarai-ya Goyou, though somewhat one sided. Be-Bop High School and Kyou kara Ore wa!! - two delinquent type buddies beating up other delinquents. xxxHoLic, but somewhat unwillingly on one guys part.

Noooooooooooo (but also yes). And here I tried so hard not to say that. Alternatively, I thought of calling the thread "a certain kind of bromance..."
I'll give all of these a try, (except the ones I've already seen: Getbackers, xxxHolic, 91 Days). I think Getbackers, Kids on the Slope, and Tales of Vesperia will probably come closest to what I'm looking for. Time for a re-watch on Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans and Gungrave. And Showa Era Rakugo... doesn't become a ghost story rather than a historical story, does it? At any rate, all of the suggestions are helpful and appreciated! Thanks guys! |

...but no, it doesn't become a ghost story. At least, not the literal kind you're presumably thinking of.

Thanks for the recommendations, SeijiSensei. I probably would have never guessed Hakata Tonkotsu Ramens or Samurai Flamenco.

Thanks, especially for the mention of specific characters. |

I thinks most delinquent stories tend to be this way, for ongoing story, Tokyo Revengers is a good piece, though rather than a specific pair, it more lean towards MC and the groups and some specific members in a supportive way.
