Wow, this is actually getting darker, but since Yayoi's episode I started to get very interested in worldbuilding. Sonoka's a cute and sweet shortstack, but her melodrama is kinda cringey and is just there for the sake of it, but considering the general events going on, it makes sense in-universe but it's not enough for me to care about her considering I have not read the prequel LNs yet (and I doubt they'll get fully translated). We get to learn a bit more about Yayoi, but her characterization isn't very sufficient in the three episodes she has spend time on, but hey she's a bit badass so I'm ok with that. The airplane fighting is a little underwhelming this time but I'm glad Satomi and his bridge bunnies (I like them but they don't get enough proper screentime let alone characterization. Even Misato who gets the most screentime of them barely get any development.) survived! I can hear the voices of Kurumi and Moe so I'm curious to learn more about them. Sadly it gets worse in the end where, even if I know Yayoi will die, Sonoka's desperate attempt at wanting to keep her living didn't work. In the next episode, we'll see the Tateyama cuties go through inside the Fuji Pillar which I'm very curious about.

Death flags were so blatant I think I would have been more surprised if Yayoi actually had survived. I'd be kinda shocked if Odin doesn't reappear though.

On another note, I'm not too fond of introducing new characters just to kill them off. It reeks of not having the balls to kill off the actually relevant characters. Other than that, the episode was okay.

Yeah, about the dying

1. The whole send-off thing dragged on too long. Yeah, I get it, she's gonna die.
2. The girl that returned looks like Ms. Half-Butt, so I actually thought it was her that returned... But it wasn't. It was a look-a-like.
3. The anime didn't even bother to show her dying. They just killed her off.
4. Also, how did you even get the pendant back?


Also, the preview... Just... just stop. The naked guy thing isn't funny anymore, if it was ever.

Just my speculation, but she did mutter something about herself being a former Named, so I'm guessing she exchanged herself for the one that came back? Anyway, they want to keep us guessing and speculating.

Spoiler for Episode 8:

This anime feels like it will just tell me to read all of the supplementary material through prequel LNs and manga and I still don't get much about what it offers. Some nice worldbuilding get provided and I am looking forward to see more of Moe and Kurumi, but Sonoka's drama keep getting worse writing-wise and feel tacked on and forced and make me like her character less despite the fact she was supposed to be my favorite character due to her relatable personality (Miko by far is my favorite among the Tateyama Valkyries). At least the stakes are heightening and they're trying to build a strategy as to how they will defeat Fuji Pillars with Thor being the chief target.
Although I have high expectations for this and that it impressed me initially with its multi-dimensional range of emotional tones and some likeable characters, increasingly I liked it less than Assault Lily: Bouquet being aired in that season, which is a shame because the worldbuilding, the concept art of the enemy side, the premise of WW2 airplanes with magic powers granted by a scheming god and the cast design sound like something to be celebrated through enjoyment and breathtaking analysis of the story and characterization. I'm still watching it to the end on principle of starting anything that interested me since I'm a completionist, but of all of the few anime I'm following this season, this is a major letdown.

Miko needs to die. She's too much of an emotional crutch for everyone else, and it feels like they're not developing and coming into their own because of that.

Those annoying guys with Miko need to die too. Just because they're freaking annoying.

It's still mediocre writing. You want the characters to sort their shit out and grow on their own instead of always depending on someone else to cheer them on and whatnot. If they got rid of Miko, the others would have no choice but to stand on their own. That might be just enough to turn this thing into something decent.

Not that I think it's gonna happen.

Hmm...what is so bad about helping and support each other? If you can't do something, rely on your friend/companion to help/support you, and you help them in return with what they aren't good at. - That's the idea.

"Everyone should be able stand by their own, relying on others is a sign of weakness and incompetence" is so......"western" way of thinking.
