And things get pretty damn grim. Hizuru fights her heart out but it was a fight that couldn't be won. The prospect of Shinpei saving everyone is being obliterated on this current path. Looping saved most of them but Hizuru had to take the fall. And that's the two strongest allies being killed. Ryunosuke is now with Shinpei at least, but that's only aiding the mental.
However, yet again, there are two reasons for hope. Hizuru is convinced Shide will betray Haine due to them having differing end goals. However, for it to even matter, the good guys would need someone who could possibly verse Shide in a physical sense. We all know that can only be Ushio. But as various actions from multiple characters have suggested, the events of the third loop are the key to everything. And within that, the way to victory may just be found. Also, was that moment from the final moments of the original OP meant to be reflected in how Shinpei induced another loop in this episode?

The more I look at them, the more I think Ros and Guil should be made the mascots of this title. Like plushie mascots.
Also I really need to go to Wakayama and soak up the atmosphere at this rate..... EDIT: Hizuru's fight is the best animated segment in any anime I have watched in quite a while

Summertime Rendering game announced
Interesting. Hope this reaches Steam someday if it's worthwhile.

I seriously doubt it'll be any good, but they sure believe in this IP. Anime, live-action, and now a video game. Well deserved of course. It's the best story centered on time travel since Steins;Gate. Or Dark if we include live-action.

21 - And the source of hope did lie within the critical point of the 3rd loop. Ushio will always appear on the 24th. The leadup was a good way for people to get things off their chest, albeit in very 'we already knew' ways. What was heartening was that people took their lumps and moved on. Loss/rejection will always occur. Roll on and be better for it. There were a lot of good water effects in this episode - mirror images from puddles, rain, certain ocean shots/scenes. And then the moment we were all waiting for - Ushio is back thanks to Guil giving the good guys just enough time to get to her first. Enough happened that it didn't feel like the info session was too long. At this point, having such an occurrence for the good guys needed a proper explanation and some downtime so that the final battle will have its impact.
22 - Shinpei's gambit paid off. But certainly wasn't unforseen. Measures were set up to counter them getting through Hiruko Cave but they found ways. Again, it is crucial to note that even with Ushio evolving, she still won't get it done by herself. Shinpei has rationale to compliment her strength and own flashes of mental brilliance. Ushio will be subject to getting overwhelmed with emotion, but be the strength Shinpei needs now that his fusion with Ryunnosuke has made him vulnerable to Haine's call. Another good battle scene where everyone gets to do their part. Ushio's punch to Shide was one of my fave moments in the manga - Watanabe replicated it perfectly. But even with such a victory, it isn't a final one. Shide and Haine aren't done. As eluded to in 21, they had their own backups. Both sides are all in with everything on the line. But it is crucial to remember - it was implied during the Shide v Hizuru fight that Haine and Shide don't have the same goal. Perhaps that was part of what stayed Ushio's hand. While emotion may sometimes spur her to do something rash, it keeps her from truly becoming a Shadow. Within those things, lies an opening for Shinpei and Ushio to take advantage of.
