I really love the animation in this! It's so colorful, fluid, sexy when necessary, and the characters really "pop" .
It seems Saori Onishi's realized the best way to get to be the Main Heroine in a romcom is to have pinkish/purple hair, only instead of Shikimori now she's playing a busty and hot gyaru. Although Akari is a pretty direct, aggressive, and non-compromising girl, she's far more emotionally vulnerable and sweet than she lets on, and is a blushing mess next to her crush . Jiro, by contrast, is a dork who plays old school games because they're simpler than real life, especially when it comes to romance, although I think it helps that the single Heroine he's after resembles his beloved Shiori. I feel like as much as Akari intimidates him and makes him uncomfortable, she'll help be more assertive and confident in himself as they come together . What kind of class makes marriage a vital course and pairs random male and female students together and have them live with each other as a married couple? Like, what is this meant to achieve? Help Japan's low birthrate problem? And, like, it seems so easy for two students to go into one bedroom so I can only imagine how many of these kids are legitimately banging, so the separate bedrooms just feel silly . So...wait, this is Toradora! Two leads who are into other people but more or less get stuck together, although now they have to actually pretend to be a couple as part of their plan to get with the people they actually want to be with...even though all that acting as a couple will inevitably lead them to fall in love with each other . I wonder about Shiori and Minami. Are they into each other? Are they just compatible and get along but with no romantic feelings for each other? It seems like they're misdirecting a little with how worried Jiro is about their relationship . I count three Akari panty shots! One of which was one of Jiro's involved sexual fantasies! Also Akari's evening wear leaves little to the imagination, especially when it comes to her bra's ! I'm glad Akari got to have some karoake time with Minami, but I kind of wanted to hear Saori Onishi sing . Well, Akari sure knows how to play a sexy wife for all it's worth, and Jiro can match her back with a full on goodbye kiss on the lips (in the first episode!), and the two already seem to be attracted to each other, so it'll be interesting to see where they go from here . The ED is pretty nice! Showing off Akari in all her gyaru glory and her utter beauty .

Definitely a rough start. Geeze, Akari implying that the girl Jiro likes might already be getting close with some other guy is quite the direction to take things right out of the gate. I get that she's not happy about the situation either. At least her directly costing them points right out of the gate did move things along.
I suppose on the positive side the couple swap rule does give them something to aim for. But oh boy...what a tough road. They kind of have to hope that most other pairs are a total disaster. Didn't think Jiro would be this shaky from the trailers. He can't be this slow. She just said they needed to build up points. Of course she isn't ok with you, but if she wants to reach her real goal then she's got to make it work. It goes from Akari harassing him to basically having to babysit his mood swings. Does feel like a show that is mostly going to be carried by the heroines. Rival guy is ok, but not much to say about him yet. Shiori and Akari are both too good for Jiro right now, but he's going to luck into ending up with one of them by the end of it . Not super bad. The girls look good and are definitely the highlight. The premise is about as awkward as you'd imagine. Unless this is a class to prepare the students for arranged marriages not sure what the point is here. All the more so with the spousal swap rule set int place for the top students. But at least the girls are good .

I remember checking out the manga a while back but the MC is more insufferable than I remember. Probably a toss up whether I stick with it. |

Ehhh.... I read on the first page that this was "Toradora lite", and the similarities are there, but so are a lot of annoyances. MC being coward-kun is the epitome of my dislike so far. I've been quite spoiled by male MCs recently in the series I watch, who are usually, well, not this shows MC, who is super wishy-washy. Like the MCs of the 2000-era; not a cool bone in his body. If he was real passionate about something, anything, I might like him better, but nope, nothing.
Childhood friend is super-standard; nothing special so far, and so is the gyaru. The gyaru having '2 modes'(cutesy one moment, yelling another) is also super annoying; but they all can't be Marins. I'm sure she'll mellow out over time, but I don't believe I'll make it that far. We'll see.

The premise of this show is so incredibly stupid. I could accept the marriage practical as a way to teach life skills, if it was just something they did like an exercise but why in God's name would your ability to graduate be tied to marriageability? That makes no sense. I mean, yea, they have to have it to drive the story but it's nonsensical.
Plus Watanabe is the type of character that grinds my gears. Even worse when these asshole girls/guys have a protag guy/girl who just rolls over and takes it like a good little doormat heh. I like a more balanced approach; like Kaze no Stigma where the deuteragonist tsundere chick routinely gets out maneuvered by the protagonist instead of him just doing anything she says and letting her beat on him. At least Fuufu hasn't gone down that path yet (having the dominant one physically whaling on the other). At least the girls are cute lol |

I feel like the thing with Akari is that she's so strong-willed and directed but for all of that she's very easy to fluster emotionally and part of it is just her projecting confidence, and Jiro can get through to that in his own way.

Jiro's dreams don't let up, imagining a wet Shiori coming over for comfort from him...and then in reality it's the actual Main Heroine in some very revealing evening wear for him to be there for her. Honestly I think I prefer the sexier reality .
OP and ED subs! The OP feels nice enough with a fun, peppy, beat even if it's for some reason very choppy with the character moment (stylistic choice?) but it definitely presents the main core of the series being the love triangle between Jiro, Akari, and Shiori (with barely any Minami in sight...) and ending on Jiro and Akari together . Ah yes...the secret weakness of a gyaru...horror movies! Like, yeah, those sometimes do lead to intimacy between couples, but only if you're that kind of couple which Jiro and Akari aren't. I mean, maybe if she glomped on him in terror, but she needed the thunder to to that . I have to admire Akari's commitment to making this sham marriage work. She even bought couple PJ's! That's adorable ! Man, the camera really loves Akari's cleavage and butt, especially in her underwear. Even when she's in PJ's they barely hold back her massive rack . Nothing says couple quite like falling asleep on the couch together. Aromatherapy is surprisingly effective in improving the romantic mood! And in doing so helped improve their grades as well (it's so weird that a marriage class has grade rankings plastered on the school walls), although surprisingly it's the people they think they still want to be with who are struggling . Are we ever going to meet the girl Sadaharu is paired with? Not that they seem to be doing that great as a couple . Akari may often be pretty feisty and cross with Jiro, but deep down she is a nice girl and is trying to play wingwoman for him. Who better to take care of Jiro while he's sick than the girl of his dreams ? Nothing more classic than a childhood friend love interest taking care of you while you're sick and looking amazing in an apron! Jiro definitely enjoyed that sight . I guess all couples are different (even school mandated ones...). Some take turns doing dinner, some leave it to the "wife" while the "husband" takes care of the other housework. It's all about working together in the end . Middle-school Shiori with shorter hair! So the major tipping point between Jiro and Shiori was when Shiori had to move away and, right when Jiro was going to confess, seemingly friendzoning him. Not that she actually intended that way, she just wanted to keep their connection alive and was planning to ask him out for Christmas, but he was too emotional to wait and listen to her. And Jiro is the only boy Shiori feels comfortable with and close to, and her feelings haven't changed since then as she steals a kiss on his cheek ! Akari shower scene! With her hair all down and wet, she really does look like Shikimori. Those boobs though ! Jiro is ready to go all in on this and help support Akari with her own romance with Minami...just as it seems like Akari is already falling for him and not sure what to do about it. The romance thickens . Does Shiori's redhead friend have a crush on her...?
