I still can't get over at this arc. It's like a harem of bishonen archetypes living together while studying.

EDIT: Also, can't get over the scene where Ciel's aunt catches Sebastian offguard and gets pissed at his hairstyle again. XD A human scarying a demon

Vincent Phantomhive, in the flesh! In a flashback at least. He was a carefree and smooth Blue House Prefect, but he was definitely not the type you wanted to bet against...or be on the losing side of a wager, lest you end up becoming his German dog. Sorry Dietrich .

I love how the Midfords' only reaction to that story was that their dad was a drudge and younger than Ciel's dad .

Look, the gang is all here! Baldo, Meyrin, Finny, Lizzie, Tanaka, and even Lau and Ran-mao! And of course the latter is there to not only support Ciel but also take bets .

Ciel doesn't need a "Sapphire Miracle" to win when he can just as well have Sebastian slip laxatives into Red Houses' meals and take them all down. Sorry boys, your play was excellent, but you went up against the wrong Phantomhive .

They knew exactly what they were doing with that scene of poor Harcourt sprawled on the ground and acting like he's about to do something he wouldn't want seen in public. It doesn't always pay to be a femboy. And of course Druitt was into that .

Look, it's the real Tanaka-san (RIP Shunji Fujimura)! There to take measure of Sebastian's methods while also hoping for another Sapphire Miracle .

Cheslock has ace finishing moves, but Green House has Greenhill! Meanwhile, instead of helping his house, Violet just makes their logo in the grass. I mean, points for artistic creativity .

It's Blue House vs Green House, just like in Ciels' dads' time! And while Green House has the skills and the power, Blue House has...an orchestra that lets them know when to hit, conducted by none other than Sebastian. IT'S NOT CRICKET...but it's a very Blue House way to win .

Edward might not have Lizzie's support, and he might not be as exceptional as she is with a blade, but he's got good instincts, realizes Ciel's plan, and can turn his ability to respect and emulate his betters into his own skills...and that's the makings of a real genius !

But I guess in the end Ciel's priority was never winning, it was finding the Head Master, and with him finally out in public, it's time for Sebastian to make his move .

It's not just me, right - Hayami Show and Nakata Jouji sound eerily similar? I mean, 6:03-6:05, when they transition between the Marquess and the assistant headmaster with no pause, is uncanny.

I just recently watched Escaflowne and totally assumed Van's brother was Hayami instead of Nakata because they sounded so similar .

The "butler" appeared for less than a minute this episode. There was a sense of satisfaction despite the disgusting work these guys made

It's Blue House vs Green House! The cricket match of the ages! But even Ciel's clever underhanded tactics might not amount to much against Edward's pitches! Good thing all Ciel really cares about is Sebastian catching the headmaster. Which is easier said than done .

How do you throw off expert batters? Well, they're male, stuck at an all-boys school, and very uptight...so throw them off with a bunch of sexy Chinese ladies with their big chests and looooong legs, all courtesy of Lau. Even Edward and Greenhill aren't immune .

Well, Cole finally gets payback against Ciel by turning the girl show in. But I wanted more posing sexy ladies !

Their next tactic...the cricket equivalent of a stationary bunt! THE SWORD IN THE STONE !

Okay, something is definitely up with the headmaster. Managing to elude Sebastian, practically teleporting, and then disappearing as soon as Sebastian grabs him? That's not normal. Though does Sebastian seem to have an idea of what was going on ?

When in doubt, surround the batter and throw intentionally bad pitches for easy catches and outs. Unsportsmanlike? Probably. IT'S NOT CRICKET? Perhaps. All the same, though, Ciel put a lot of effort into it and even Greenhill can acknowledge that and Blue House challenging Green House with all that they have .

Poor Edward gets a hit in and his sister and the Phantomhive gang get a mixed response. But hey, Meyrin's eyes !

But when Ciel has done enough, it's time for Bluewer to step up and unleash his strongest attack...a high pitch that soars into the sky and hurtles directly towards the goal like a predator racing towards its prey....HUNTER IN THE DARK !

It figures, though, that Greenhill would be the final boss, and the with the power of his EXCALIBUR, he's effectively unstoppable. Until Ciel takes a hit for the team and manages to throw one last bowl to end the game in Blue House's victory! The Sapphire Miracle has been resurrected !

This was the weirdest episode ever for Black Butler. Sebastian didn't do a thing, Ciel nailed a sport and there was a lot of heterosexual humor.

They did it! Blue House won! The Sapphire Miracle has come again! And Ciel is all wholesome and sentimental with his teammates' cheers and some attention from his beloved Master Michaelis. It's a beautiful thing .

Of course it's all just another calculated move by Ciel to win and get enough attention/recognition for MVP status, he even altered the cricket ball and manipulated Green Houses' sense of sportsmanship...but he does seem to respect their dignity and pride in a loss, even so .

Now Ciel has the adoration of his classmates, a goofy hat, and a finely-made cox uniform courtesy of Sebastian as he leads Blue House in the cricket rowing. He cuts quite a striking figure, especially in Lizzie's eyes .

Oh hey, Queen Victoria! And her two Charles' !

I guess it was inevitable Blue House would come undone because they're still unathletic nerds at the end of the day...meaning they never practiced rowing becuase they never thought they'd win so they end up capsizing. But even that doesn't get in the way of them enjoying the fireworks show !

And everyone gets some fun! Bluewear foists his sisters on some people, Lau is having a grand ol' time, Lady Midford gets to dance with Tanaka, Meyrin gets escorted by Soma, and Ciel and Lizzie even get to dance .

And what better way to cap off Ciels' successes than an invite to the Midnight Tea Party and his best chance at meeting the head master and getting to the bottom of the missing students? Though even when he directly confronts the P4 and the head master about it, suddenly...Derrick Arden shows up!? Even the P4 didn't see this coming .

There's Derrick Arden, in the flesh! Kind of! The P4 are really shocked to see him there, no moreso than when he takes a bite out of Greenhill. Because he's just Derrick...he's yet another reanimated zombie. Book of Atlantic flashbacks, anyone ?

Well, the jig is up, no better time to reveal Sebastian in true butler form and have him take care of a rowdy tea guest. And Ciel finally pulls out his gun in true Ciel fashion .

The P4 killed Derrick!? So...they're the culprits? But why? Though I guess the more pressing matter is that through Redmond's connection to his uncle they helped cover up the murder and planned to continue said cover up through the Phoenix Society, seeing the return of Ryan Stoker and his business associate...Ciel and Sebastian's old buddy The Undertaker. Who had been posing as the Head Master the whole time. Explains how he kept giving Sebastian the slip .

Look at all the pretty illustrated flashbacks to all our favorite moments with the Undertaker, complete with appearances by Madame Red, Grell, and even Knox !

But seriously though, why did the P4 kill Derrick? Once upon a time they were four buddies who finally achieved Prefect status, and to them Derrick was the epitome of the perfect paige and student. It even sounds like he was voiced by Yu Kobayashi, doubling down on how great he is. Of course that all changed when Redmond read a coded poem for the P4 and discovered that Derrick is actually part of a group of bullies torturing their fellow students. I'm guessing it went even more downhill from there .

Man, Redman sure knows how to pick 'em, huh? Two Drudges who ended up bullying and abusing other students and using them to take credit and appear perfect for their Prefect...that's the truth about the "famous" Derrick Arden who this entire arc was centered around finding .

It gets even worse when you realize he feels no guilt for what he's done and acts like he's just been blowing off steam at a school he doesn't even enjoy being at, and he gets away with it because he's the son of a Duke and has the priviledge and money to get what he wants...including bribing the Lower Master Agares .

But the prospect of someone so vile becoming a Prefect and continuing to corrupt the school is too much for Greenhill, or the entire P4 in fact, so they immediately murder Derrick, his accomplices, and the Lower Master. And thus set the stage for their crime, cover-up, and eventual attempt at reanimating the dead...all for the sake of maintaining Weston's honor and tradition .

Man, how convenient it is that the legit Head Master was on around the world trip when this was all going on so the P4 basically had free reign to pull all this off and install a fake Head Master. I wonder how the actual Head Master would have reacted

Even somebody at Ciel draws the line at being so zealous and obsessed with the tradition of a school that you would commit cold-blooded murder over it, and no way is he going to cover up for these guys, but the least he can do is try to talk them into lighter sentences. The Undertaker is a different story .

So the Undertaker has taken yet another step in reanimating the dead, this time finding a way to make them more alive by using "Episodes" of their future, the thing that makes them want to live, to give them enough to latch onto to appear as if they really are among the living again. Not that it's a perfect process, even his "masterpiece" Agares succumbs to being a zombie when facing off against Sebastian .

Poor Harcourt ends up wetting himself and fainting. It just does not pay to be a femboy .

The Undertaker and Sebastian can mutually enjoy the tragicomedy that is humans, but the former wants to find out what lies beyond death, while the latter basks in the beauty of it. They just are not compatible, which makes them effective rivals even if Sebastian prioritizing Ciel means he can't catch Undertaker as he heads off on his merry way to cause more trouble in a future season .

Despite committing several counts of murder and covering it up, the P4 get let off with just getting expelled. The queen right well can't have it be public that a relative was as vile and irresponsible as Derrick. Besides, getting banished from the school they sacrificed so much for is a punishment worse than prison for the boys. And even the new P4 made up of their Drudges can't enjoy it knowing the truth, especially Edward .

Well, Ciel is done with school and has no intention of looking back on it or his old "pals" McMillan. He's just as content living the relatively simple life back at the manor with his servants. And Sebastian will use the flames of one last picture of his school life to bake him a cake. I guess that's as fitting an end to this arc as any .

Did the anime end? Then again this story arc left an open gap for future arcs like whatever is Undertaker's true agenda which might clash with the Queen of England
